Fake dress sites??

Sarah , on February 11, 2012 at 10:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

So as I've been reading a lot of posts on the forums I've seen people referring to "fake" dress sites and it being risky to order from them.

I'm confused: Are the sites themselves fake, as in you pay them for nothing or do they sell knock off dresses?

Knock off dresses that are of awful quality. So it's the dresses that are fake, not the sites :-)

Thank you!! Are there any sites online that you girls know of that ARE credible? I know that obv DB & AA have their own websites that are fine... but I see a LOT of bridal sites that are oh so tempting.

The first thing is to check if the site is based in China. If it is, you can just nix it. If it's not, you can do the google search on WW to see if somebody posted something on that particular website.

Usually "fake" sites post an array of images that look like they pulled it from 100 different sites. They make copies of the dresses. Sometimes bad copies, then sometimes they take your money and run.

Tell-tale signs are poor English, bad grammar, no existing online reviews (indicates new 'pop-up shops' looking to take advantage of unsuspecting brides).

Giant list of sites to stay away from.

Mori Lee has a giant list of sites that use the designers stock photos to try to sell dresses, but the sites listed are Not Authorized Dealers. Click the red link Brides Beware www.morilee.com/

Just because the site is not on there, doesn't mean it is legit. Some of these sites have multiple names for the same location. When in doubt, email or chat and ask "Are you an Authorized Dealer?"

    Leigit sites....

    www.bestbridalprices.com

    www.houseofbrides.com

    www.ebridalsuperstore.com/CategorySearchResults.asp?category=BM

    HOWEVER....

Your dream dress in a photo could look Horrible on. (I hated my dream dress)

And what you HATE on a hanger could be "The One"

So, please go to a salon and try on dresses before you start looking for deals on the internet. If you fall in love with a dress you can always look at the pre-owned dress sites. Some are Never worn dresses, the seller just changed their mind.

This is near and dear to me because I bought my dress from China but not from one of "those" sites. It turned out great, very good quality and I was not nervous really because I had done a lot of research not just "reviews" which honestly I don't trust on any site with a very few exceptions but mostly from posts with pics on wedding forums I am active on. What I did not know is that most wedding dresses sold in the US are made in China, regardless of where they are bought so I guess the China thing didn't bother me. I love my dress and I didn't have to spend $1500+ for it. I have heard nothing but bad about the sites listed in the post above and there are tons of fly-by-night places that do take your money and run, not just in wedding dresses but all other things you can buy so definitely do your research before ordering anything. Also, unless you are a supermodel and 6' tall weighing 95 lbs it is probably not going to look on you exactly like it looks on the twigs, I mean, models.

    Congrats BodyByViGirl

However, most of us know that dresses are Made in China - but they are Made by someone that has a Contract with the designer and has specific material and patterns they must use.

The sites WE are talking about are the sites that are Not Authorized Dealers... ones that just look at images and try to recreate the dress with out the pattern or permission from the Original Designer.

& Nothing looks like the model, that is why above I suggest she Try on Dresses

Thank you so much ladies esp Hayley for all of this great information!

I know that I do not resemble in any way shape or form any of the models that are wearing these gowns, I'll definitely be going to a salon to try things on in person, but I would like to double check the internet for the best price. But, I'll DEFINITELY be checking for an authorized dealer, without a doubt!!!

I REALLY appreciate all the information & will look at all the links and everything you've posted! Thank you so much!!

Www.bestbridalprices.com and www.houseofbrides.com are the only two real sites that I know of. They are real bridal stores, you still need to know your size cause their return policies suck, their prices are comparable to a salon, they are not cheap like the chinese knock-off sites.

When a site is referred to as "Fake" or "Knock off", it typically means that the website sells dresses that are copied and custom made based on the authentic designers picture. You will receive a cheap version which may cost you more money to fix the dress, than what the dress cost itself. I have had customers share their poor experience of not being able to receive any correspondence once these companies have their money. These sites are typically from China.

We have put together a list of over 3000 sites (and counting) that you should stay away from. Watch the videos as well to help educate yourself.

You can also share your experience if you ever ordered from one of these sites on our list and help others.

I recently bought what was supposed to be an authentic Pronovias Mildred wedding dress from Anne Bridal (annebridals.com) for my daughter. That was my worst mistake. Having tried the actual dress on in a bridal boutique prior to buying from them, it was obvious the dress received was a fake. The tulle was cheap, design details weren’t the same, and the dress tag I saw on actual Pronovias dresses (after I purchased the dress), was subtly different. They post stock photos, as well as their own photos of the dress on a mannequin, but looking back the quality was poor and details weren’t as clear until it was in hand. They also sell their dresses on preownedweddingdresses.com and I’ve asked them to look into this, as well as reporting them to the designer’s counterfeit info area. I’ve learned a big lesson about shopping online. There was no real address, only a PO Box (PO box 20896), no phone number, and a free and general email address domain (**********@*****.***). They refunded my money, but I waited to get my money back before I blasted them about their fraudulence. An actual address (31 Flower Avenue, Floral City, NY, 11001) was posted on another website, ironically one that is meant to minimize scammers, but I noticed all the info was erased a couple of days ago. My guess is they could smell a complaint coming. They denied selling counterfeits, of course, and used the excuse that it was an older model dress, but I know what was tried on and I know what I received-two completely different products. No decent contact info, low price and sometimeish photos, I should have known. STAY AWAY!
