Fainted at Dress Fitting!

Katelynn , on January 30, 2014 at 10:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I had my first dress fitting yesterday. My dress is extremely tight through my ribcage, but I also had my mom hook the corset on the tightest latch still so the zipper would feel better. As we were nearing the end, I started getting hot.

And then my vision went out.

And then my hearing.

I began to fall, unconscious, but my mom caught me. I sat down and recovered after a long while, but now I am absolutely petrified of this happening again but at my wedding! I was so excited before, but now I am dreading everything. I was humiliated just in front of my mom and the seamstress, but imagine in front of 400 people! Obviously I will wear the corset looser then but nonetheless. I'm not even sure how to find my excitement again when all I can think about is fainting and then ruining my wedding.

You might want to wear the corset looser like you said or wear it every day to get used to moving around strangled style

Your wedding is still a far way out. Do you have any more fittings? If it is really that tight can they take it out at all?

Awe I am sorry this happened. However, I think you already found your solution: loosen up the corset. When is your next fitting? I am sure it will build your confidence again if you have another dress fitting that goes a little better Smiley smile Also, make sure you ate and drank something because the excitement can be a little much on an empty tummy and when dehydrated. Glad your mom caught you though Smiley smile

Before you worry about nerves, let me ask you this: Did you eat? Have anything to drink (hydrated)? Was it very warm in the fitting area? These could all be factors. To avoid this on your day, make sure you eat a few light meals and keep yourself hydrated with water. Maybe even keep some peanut M&Ms with you. I have hypoglycemia, and I keep a small bag of these with me when I feel like this might happen. If it is nerves, I don't know what to tell you. I'm worried about the same thing.

Take a deep breath! I'm sure you'll be fine. Do you think it's because it was too tight or were you standing still for too long? I used to sing in a choir and girls used to pass out all the time from " locking" their knees. This is caused by standing too straight and cutting off circulation. Hopefully it's from that, just remember to shift weight between legs Smiley winking

Thanks everyone! I hadn't eaten or drank very much at all, which looking back, probably played a main part. I'll just have to wear it all the time and practice breathing with constrictions or something! Smiley smile

I have a rule for dresses: fit it when you're full. Since your body expands after eating, you'll get a better and more accurate fit if you size your corset and gown on a full stomach! Smiley smile it's pointless to suffer and worry when it's just a matter of a few inches. But maybe have your bms prepared just in case Smiley winking

Loosen the corset and make sure you're hydrated and fed. At least this happened during the fitting and not the wedding! Now you'll be prepared Smiley smile

I'm worried about the same thing...A few years ago i went to someone's wedding and my dress had a belt over the ribcage that wasn't even tight and I fainted. So when I tried on my dress for the first time that was the first thought that popped into my head and the dress is so much tighter. I'm so afraid that I will faint that i'm trying to lose extra few pounds so it wouldn't be as tight.

Squeeze your butt cheeks lol I remember watching dr.phil years ago and he said it was impossible to pass out while doing that. You should try it lol. In all seriousness, I am sorry that happened. I would say it sounds like the dress was too tight and also make sure you are hydrated.
