eyelash extensions?

LightBlueGem, on February 12, 2015 at 10:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

If you've tried them, what do you think? Waterproof mascara irritates my eyes, and I thought I found my new holy grail mascara (Too Faced) but it bleeds under my eyes after a few hours. I'm terrible at applying false lashes and am seriously considering splurging on them.

Every single person I know who has stopped refilling theirs every 3 weeks has had all their natural eye lashes fall out. Totally not worth the risk to me.

I have never used the extensions because I use regular false lashed often, but I wanted to commiserate about Too Faced! I thought it was the best thing EVER too, but it smudges under my eyes and I don't even do my bottom lashes. So disappointing Smiley sad No matter what fancy mascara I find, I always revert back to Maybelline.

Depends who does them to be honest, I had individuals for my vacation last year, and they were amazing! My lashes felt amazing and i would do it again. However, I also know of people that had them (i think they were clusters) and all their eyelashes fell out, and their eyes went really puffy. Probably a reaction to the glue but scary nonetheless.

ETA: My holy grail mascara is Le volume de Chanel, but Benefit 'They're Real' Mascara is amazing too, give them a go!

Try the Younique 3D fiber lashes! It's a mascara but it's awesome. (And I suck at makeup.)

Ok, I definitely don't want to risk my eyelashes falling out. Back to my trusty Loreal Double Extend. I love the stuff. That and Maybelline Falsies when I want something more dramatic. I am always disappointed in high end mascaras. It doesn't seem like there's a very big quality gap between them and drugstore brands.

I thought about lash extensions but I might just do them for the honeymoon. My MUA will apply my false eyelashes.

I've heard too many horror stories about eye irritation or eye lashes falling out. I would suggest against them.

Heads up, last year I tried "Revitalash" which is a non-prescription alternative to Latisse and makes your eyelashes grow. Did a lot of research and the product had stellar reviews. I had TREMENDOUS success and had long and thick eyelashes.

Continued to use the stuff according to directions and two months later, began to feel an incredible pressure behind my eyes. The only relief was closing my eyes... I was constantly napping during the day because keeping my eyes open was so painful. And I was getting terrible pressure headaches too. I obviously discontinued using the stuff immediately, be the effects lasted for months. I still worry that Ive done permanent damage to my eyes!!

After the issue arose, I did some research about eye pressure as a side affect and discovered that a number of women have had a similar experience ( i saw nothing about this when reading up on the product initially)

Anyways, just wanted to warn anyone who is considering using Revitalash about my experience and that the results are not worth the risks!! Stick to mascara or good false lashes!!

I just got them done for the first time this week!! I love them and completely recommend. I usually hate fake eyelashes since they are so heavy and uncomfortable on my eyes, I also hate that they make me look drag queenish for some reason. My experience with the extensions has been great though. I love that they look natural ( you have several options for the style of extension) and I don't have to wear mascara for the next 3-4 wks. I did research a lot for the same concerns and you just have to make sure not to mess with them because that's when they start pulling your real lashes.

I used to get eyelash extensions (the singles). It was amazing. You have to follow the directions and not pick at them when you need a refill, wash them with this special cleanser, etc. My natural were/are fine.

I have eyelash extensions right now. I'd recommend them but everyone is different, and it depends on what you're prepared to take on. Here's what I can share:

    - Make sure you get them done at a reputable salon, and that they are using pharmaceutical grade adhesive. I've heard horror stories about WOOD GLUE being applied to eyes. Cheaper is not better in this case, and not all salons are created equal. A good salon will also have various types of lashes (e.g. synthetic vs. mink) and lengths to give you the look you want.

    - Once you find your reputable salon with trained professionals (YES THERE ARE SEPARATE ESTHETICIAN COURSES FOR EYELASH EXTENSIONS), bring a rag soaked in water & lemon to drape over your face for your appointment. The glue fumes BURN and my very first appointment was nearly two hours long because of how many eyelashes I have. Two hours turns into ETERNITY very quickly when breathing hurts, so you'll be glad to have a filter.

    - It's a little uncomfortable, I won't lie. Not the actual application, but they put a small pad of tape-like stuff on your bottom lashes to prevent the glue from getting in them as well as above to prevent your eyes from twitching too much during application. When they're pulling that off and doing final separations to make sure the glue isn't sticking togheter, all while you're staring into a bright light it kinda sucks. It's over quickly, I promise.

    - As long as you don't use oil based products, you can cleanse/take care of your face and eyes as normal. You can swim in the pool even. Oil based products will just remove the glue and your extensions will come off. Not a big deal and good to know if you hate them and want them gone in a hurry. Make sure you clean your face and eyes regularly as normal, or you risk infection. A lot of horror stories associated with extensions come from ladies who were too nervous to wash their eyes (nobody wants to wreck a 125$ extension job) and naturally bacteria gets a little crazy. The first wash you do might irritate your eyes a bit. This is normal and the way it was explained to me is that excess glue/fumes is just washing off and might sting.

    - Don't pick at them. Your esthetician will give you a little lash brush to use to comb your lashes in the morning if they get a little wonky and that's really all you need to do.

    - My very first appointment, I had a hard time with the glue fumes and began to squirm a bit. I think this led to my esthetician trying to rush for my comfort, and I ended up with a couple of lashes reaching into my water line. I didn't know until I was already home and couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why they were hurting my 1 eye so badly. Lo and behold they were irritating my top water line just because they were sticking out a bit. All I did was trim them with a pair of tiny, curved scissors and everything was 100% okay after that.

It's not all easy but I can't think of any beauty regimen that is. They're very nice to have because you wake up feeling gorgeous, and not having to buy falsies or glue anymore is great.

Edit to add: Also make sure they're doing individual lashes. A good salon won't apply in clusters, and glue will not be touching your skin.

I bought the Younique 3D lash stuff too and love it. It's messy to take off, but looks great while it's on.

I've only heard of one person who got eyelash extensions and she was making cookies a few days later and they MELTED when she opened the oven! Terrifying.

I used to get eyelash extensions all the time, I miss them so much. The greatest thing about lash extentions is that you dont have to use mascara so you never again will have racoon eyes. I stoppped when I got engaged to save money for the wedding, they are pricey but will get them again right before my wedding. I have never had any issues and I still have plenty of eyelashes. It is important to go to someone with training and is cerified, please do some research before getting them done. I always recommend the individual lashes, it can take some time (usually two hours) but it is totally worth it. I would not do it for the first time close to your wedding. I have heard that some people can have an allergic reaction to the glue that they use. If everything goes well get a fill right before the wedding. You may even want to try different lengths and curls of lashes.

As long as you get them done by a professional they'll look great. My eyelashes are long but they grow down, not up (I call them cow lashes LOL) so I didn't like they way they looked on me. But if your eyelashes are naturally curly they'll look great, it makes everything way easier. The only thing I would suggest is keeping up with the maintenance or they'll look horrible and when you're ready to take them off go back to the person that put them on or you'll rip all your lashes out.

I got them when I got LASIK (you can't wear eye makeup for a week and I don't go ANYWHERE without mascara on lol) and they were WONDERFUL!!! I am getting them for my wedding too, and they'll last for the honeymoon so well worth the money!! I got the kind that are added to your individual lashes one by one, by a professional at a salon. Your natural lashes fall off over time so eventually they just come off with your natural lashes. Your eyelashes do not "fall out" (implying you have no more eyelashes on your face) and they do not need to be taken off individually if you choose not to keep up with them.

I'm getting them done for the first time tomorrow. Like some others have said, I was told by people who have had them before to try them out before the wedding to make sure that you can tolerate them. I tend to rub my eyes, so I'm nervous that they will drive me crazy but we'll see. Everyone I know who has had them loves them and they look gorgeous.

Eyelash extensions are an amazing alternative to mascara & strip lashes. You wake up practically ready to go!

It is very important to make sure that if you get eyelash extensions that you get them done by a licensed professional. You would be surprised at how many eyelash extension technicians aren't licensed and might not use the highest quality products which can cause you issues. I recommend using a reputable company like One Stop Lashes who makes sure there lash technicians are licensed and reputable.
