Eyelash Extensions or Fake lashes?

danielleesme, on January 16, 2016 at 4:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hi everyone! Happy Saturday!

Just wondering on what your thoughts are on eyelash extensions vs fake lashes. I have long eyelashes, but they are a very light brown (almost blond, like my eyebrows), and I am obsessed with them (meaning I have spent a ton of money trying to make them stand out more haha).

I have used MACs fake eyelashes in the past, and I love them, but because we are doing a DW, my BM mentioned eyelash extensions. I have never used them, but the idea of not having to wear waterproof mascara for a week in Mexico (because its a pain in the butt to come off, and I don't need to deal with that before the wedding) is appealing.

For those of you who have worn either (or both!) what did/do you think?

You are a girl after my own heart! Honestly, for people like us, it is 100% worth it to splurge for eyelash extensions for our wedding day! I have very short eyelashes... I curl them and use 2 different types of mascara every day. I often wear strip lashes for special occasions (like a big date, NYE, when we go to a wedding or I'm a BM, etc.). I got eyelash extensions several years ago when I got LASIK done (you can't wear any mascara/eye makeup for 2 weeks and there was just no way I was doing that haha). I absolutely loved them so I knew I would definitely get them again whenever I got married!! They were SO worth it to have on my wedding day, and awesome to have on our Mexican honeymoon afterwards!!

How long they last depends on a combination of how fast your natural lashes grow/fall out, and if you take care of them like you're supposed to (they will give you a little brush to use, it looks like a mascara brush but plain. You can't rub your eyes and you need to brush your lashes after you shower. But they can last for up to a month or longer!) Also make sure you go to a professional and don't cheap out - I have heard horror stories of people who were unqualified (like nail salons - just NO) doing them and really messing up people's lashes and worse, their eyes. You don't want someone who doesn't know what they're doing that close to your eyes. But overall, I would absolutely recommend them!! You won't regret it!

I have been seriously considering eyelash extensions, but they CAN affect your real eyelashes.

I am wondering this as well. My MOH has gotten eyelash extensions for a few months, and they always look AMAZING. I have naturally very long lashes, but they can't hold a curl to save their life. I have never used fake eyelashes, and honestly, they aren't that appealing to me. I think I am going to try out extensions before the wedding to see if I like them, and if I do, I will definitely get them done for the wedding.

Extension are beautiful. I love the way they look. But for me, honestly I'm lazy, and false lashes are just as good. I'm not picky.

Do whatever is easiest and most economical for you.

Extensions when u try to remove them are such a pain. I lost many of my real eyelashes when I did them. It was awful. Never again

@annakay511, I am so glad! I am OBSESSED with my eyelashes; I wear a pre-primer (Givenchy Mr Lash Booster - that works well, but obviously not as well as the pictures say it does haha), plus a primer and then mascara. I have spent more than I care to admit on different brands of mascara. I am even considering doing BOTH extensions and fake lashes, because I am that obsessed haha (I probably wont but I am not NOT considering it). Your lashes look so great in the water too! Going with @Caitlin, maybe I will try them first (in March or something) and then decide afterward? I just know that waterproof mascara can pull out your lashes if you take it off too quickly or rough, and because they are so fine, I just don't want the hassle.

@Miranda, another fear as well! My lashes are long, but fine, and tend to fall out easier. I would hate to have them damaged. @JoRocka, and the cost! Ugh. I live 2 hours away from the city, on a highway aptly nicknamed "Highway of Death", which in the winter, means I don't want to drive it unless I have to. (it took 3 hours to drive 150kms the other day because of a snow storm. The worst).

I have had eyelash extensions for the past year and I am never going back! I get them filled every 3-4 weeks. I'm obsessed with them.

Top photo=no extensions and 10 mins of curling and mascara application

Bottom photo= extensions only (no mascara)

I personally like big dramatic lashes, my sister gets much more subtle ones and they are still awesome.

I fell in love with false lashes. When I found out about extensionsI wad really excited but then I researched them. For me

they would most likely not work. I touch my face and eyes all the time.

Problem with extensions is they need to be done professionally. And taken off professionally. That said, I love "yes they're real" mascara and works like a charm.

I took a course and do eye lash extensions as my job. I will say this time and time again - eye lash extensions DO NOT affect your real eyelashes AT ALL. I don't understand why so many people think they do. If you don't like them DO NOT REMOVE THEM YOURSELF! Otherwise, yes, you will pull out your own lashes, but that is no ones fault but yourself. You can get the professionally removed and they will not affect the natural lash.

This is what happens --- one fake lash is attached (with adhesive) to your natural lash. Your natural lashes shed in cycles. So when they naturally fall out, the false lash will shed with it. I have had eyelash extensions for over 3 years and have been doing eyelash extensions professionally for 2. As long as you take care of them they really are amazing. No mascara for this girl haha.

With that being said - it's totally based on preference. Some love them and can't live without them and others just don't like the upkeep.

    These are mine Smiley smile

Oooh! @Glam0rous! I love that look! They are naturally glamorous, if you get what I mean? They are beautiful! I definitely would put out the money to have someone do them correctly. I don't want this to look awful haha. How do you feel they hold up in the water?

@Haley, I see what you mean. It is awesome not to have to wear mascara, but I would because I love the way they look! Yours are amazing!
