Extra Wedding Dress Fabric

Sydney, on April 16, 2019 at 7:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Looking for ideas for what to do with my extra wedding dress fabric from alterations. Any creative suggestions besides a pillow for rings? I will not have a ring bearer.

Thanks!

I’ve also seen brides use their excess fabric to make their garter or items for future children if you plan to have any, a keepsake pillow, a baptism dress, a tutu, etc.

Maybe wrap it around your bouquet?

I just saw an article about a mother who made a teepee, a stuffed unicorn, two stuffed bears, a framed piece and a garter out of her daughters dress for her future daughters/daughter in-laws. I’m sure you could make a few of these things from leftover materials.

My florist is going to wrap the stems of my bouquet with the extra fabric as well as wrap the stem of my fiancé's boutonniere.

Yes! It is the neatest idea. She also made each girl a necklace with their moms wedding date on a tiny charm on the back and a piece of her dress in the pendant. Here is the link. I tossed around the idea of selling my dress but I think I’ll keep it to make a few small things for our two sons future wives.

I’m still stuck on unicorn and a teepee!!! Like, I want to be this lady’s friend!

my fiancé’s grammy had her dress donated to make baby funeral dresses. There was a portion left over made into a pillow. I was eyeing that for so long! We are using it as something old for the ring pillow.

my quinceañera dress is white and my mom
wanted to give it away and I practically tackled her because she didn’t know I was saving it to make my kids’ baptism gown(s) out of it.

I am using the extra lace for my bouquet wraps. I also had my seamstress add it to my flower girls dress so it would be more special.

Oh I love that you’re making their baptism gowns out of yours. I was pretty stuck on that teepee and unicorn as well! Everything she made from that gown was stunning. Have you seen the article about the mom of two girls who framed two bow ties and prayed over them everyday? She plans on giving them to her future son in-laws and tell them that she’s prayed for them their whole lives. We have two boys so I thought it would be so neat to make the two garters for their future wives something old. I think I would need 6-10 unicorns for my grand babies by the way my oldest talks! He’s said he wants at least 4 kids since he was a toddler. Lol!

Depending in your theme...you could tear it into strands and make a dreamcatcher. My theme is elegant bohemian so it would look amazing but not a perfect idea for all themes.

I saw someone who will guild the lace and make custom jewlery, like hair clips, brooches, and cuff bracelets. Her work was STUNNING. I think it was an etsy shop.

My florist suggested to keep a piece of my dress, and tie it around my bouquet.
