Exit transportation

PG, on October 30, 2017 at 3:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

What are your plans for leaving the wedding reception? We aren't really interested in a "formal" exit, and this is one of the last things I have to do! The planner keeps asking and I'm a bit lost. We looked at limos but I really don't want to pay $400 to have someone drive us 8 minutes away. Can you hire a nicer taxi or something? Haha. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm kind of feeling the same way, so I'm following this thread. I don't want to do a formal exit at all, I feel like it's kind of excessive and can get expensive just to, essentially, leave.

A lot of limo companies also offer town cars.

Me too, Katie! I'm already going to have enough attention all day I don't want a big show to watch us get in a car, lol!

We took the shuttle back to our hotel with all of our guests. I don't get the whole "exit" thing. Why would you want to leave the party before your guests?

We stayed until the bitter end, actually helped the staff shoo some lingerers out the door. We hired shuttles for our guests, so we hopped on one of the last two to head back to the hotel. We had zero interest in a formal exit, and if I'm paying for a party I want to see it finish.

If you don't want a formal exit, don't have a formal exit. Be firm with your planner. How are you getting to the wedding? Can you just use that mode of transportation back?

I mean, we aren't going to do the formal exit but we still need a way back. We're staying at a different hotel from the night prior and every one else! I'll probably just ride with my mom/bridesmaids as the other hotel is .3 miles from the site.

Personally we are doing family photos after the ceremony and some full bridal party photos. But I have been to weddings where they rent or borrow a nicer car and just drive off together or have the owner of the car/an appointment person drive them. ETA: just notice you said after reception but you could do the same thing. Smiley smile

We aren't exiting. We're hosting the party, and when it gets close to the end we'll mane general announcement to thank everyone for coming, then greet them individually at the door and thank them one-on-one, then we are staying to clean up.

We stayed until the bitter end to say goodbye to all of our guests and secure anything that had the potential to be stolen overnight--our venue was the courtyard of an historic inn, so we were able to store stuff in the inn until we came to finish cleaning up and packing everything the next morning. Then we hoofed it--slowly, LOL, because we are old and we were exhausted--the block and a half to our B&B. One of my favorite memories of the night, actually--creeping ever so slowly up the street hand in hand with my new husband, smooching every few yards and enjoying our last few minutes in our wedding finery.

We scheduled an Uber black ahead of time. We left at the end of the night as most people were leaving, but did not do a big exit or anything.

We skipped the formal exit. We parked H's car at the venue ahead of time so we would have our own way back to our hotel together.

Our hotel for the night will be right by the venue so we will probably just take one of our cars there.

We took an Uber back to our hotel. Uber Black is a great option--H's mom swears by them (she's way fancier than me)

Our limo company is sending a town car to pick us up at the end of the night and it was included in the package. How are you getting to the wedding and reception?

Okay the uber route is sounding pretty good to me! The planner is asking for a name and phone numbers and what not so I didn't want to just be like, "oh we'll just uber..."! Haha, but that's honestly what I'm leaning towards and will most likely prefer! We don't need or want anything special and do want to stay until the end as well!
