Exchanging dress from David's Bridal? HELP!

Dalia, on July 30, 2015 at 1:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

So, here's the thing.. I purchased my dress back in March (8 months before the wedding) and as I was looking through the David's Bridal website I fell in love with a dress! I called to find out how easy it would be to exchange it, and I was told it was going to be the manager's decision. I'm sooo hoping they do change it! But the price difference is a lot, I paid $824 for my dress, and the one I want is (surprisingly) $299 right now.

Anyway, my question is: HAS ANYONE EXCHANGED THEIR DRESS FROM DB BEFORE?!

The picture is the one I want!

I exchanged the first dress I got and was able to do so with no problem. However both dresses were the same price. That is a pretty big price difference so I can see there being an issue. Maybe if you buy some accessories to close the gap?

I think they will only let you exchange for a same price or higher dress unfortunately. Maybe they will let you apply the balance to shoes or jewelry but I'm pretty sure you will not get any money back if you do exchange it for a lower price dress.

I have been considering exchanging my dress. When I actually said yes to the dress, I did so with my mother present. She was extremely judgmental and did not like anything that I tried on. I felt like I had to get something that day because my daughter had flown in from MI for the weekend specifically to do dress shopping. My FH even surprised me by going to DB after I selected a dress and he paid for it. I had no idea that was happening. Now I keep seeing "my dream dress" all over and I really want to switch it.

Your second dress is beautiful BTW. I hope they let you change it out. I would suggest doing as JuleeM suggested and get some accessories to close the gap some.

I was thinking about doing the same thing, sort of. My dress is $250 cheaper now. Only 3 days after I bought mine. Don't think DB would refund me that money. Smiley sad

If they say no to the exchange I would suggest asking if you can buy the new dress and exchange the old one for BM dresses. Sort of get store credit and then use it on other things. Maybe buy your veil, shoes, a handbag, jewelry, anything you might want. Maybe even things from that little section up front with gift type items like cake toppers, guest books, t-shirts, etc. If it's in your budget to buy the other dress I would do it regardless. You will be happier if it's the one you really want and if nothing else you can try to sell your original dress. You likely won't get your full money back if you have to go that route but maybe it would still be less total money than the cost of the first dress and even if it's not you get the dress you want.

@DRGCAS, I haven't done this myself but I've been told that @ DB if the price of your dress goes down within 14 days they will refund you the difference. It's certainly worth trying!

My mother changed her dress THREE times. I am so not even kidding. (I wish I was)

They let her use the price difference on shoes and undergarments. The first dress was cheaper than the second, but the third was cheaper than the second.

They will only let you use it for store credit though. She also did this at two stores, across two states.

    UPDATE!!!:::

So, I stopped by DB on Friday and talked to the manager and I was told that yes, I could exchange my dress (!!!!). I had to make an appointment for Sunday morning though, and unfortunately they did not have the dress I wanted at that store, or at any of the stores in the Dallas area Smiley sad

I had my dress with me and I decided to try it on one more time. "Idk, maybe I'll fall in love with it again" so I put it on, and I sure did fall in love with it again! The manager probably thought I was crazy but that's ok Smiley winking She was super nice and made sure I was happy with my decision.

Now, I do need a few alterations so I got a quote for that and they wanted to charge me $415!!!!!!!!! Whaaaaaaaaat?! That's half the price of my dress! So crazy, but anyway... Here's a pic of my dress and I sure do love it, in case you couldn't tell from that smile! Smiley winking

Alterations are crazy at DB. If you can find a good local seamstress, you'd probably make out better. I only needed really simple things done, and it was still $50, and $85 for my two dresses (straps adjusted on both, and premade sleeves tacked on one)

Since what I needed was so simple, it wasn't worth chasing down a local seamstress to save $50, but for $200 - you bet I would!

That is absolutely gorgeous! I love the neckline and sleeves. Smiley smile I would look elsewhere for the alterations, at least to see if David's pricing is good for what you need. If it is minor I don't think it should be that much from what others have posted for their alterations on here.

    I love your dress!

What do you need done to the dress? Lace is more expensive to alter, and if they have to take the dress in it's also more expensive. I am not going to DB for alterations and am instead having it done by a local shop that's been in business for 30 years. I found my alterations shop on WW searching for dress & attire vendors.

I'm so happy you fell in love "again" with your original dress. It is beautiful. I hope you can find someone to do the alterations. That price is crazy.

So glad you stuck with the original. This one looks great on you and I like it better than the 2nd one.
