Ever been called a bridezilla?

Mara , on April 23, 2017 at 10:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 38

I've been called a bridezilla a few times when I've ask my bridesmaids to purchase things. Anyone else? If so, how did you handle it?

Well we need some more information. What have you asked them to purchase? Was it within their budgets? What was the timeframe?

The only thing your bridesmaids need to purchase is a dress and it should be within their budget, which you should have asked about prior to picking a dress. What other things are you asking them to purchase?

I was called a bridezilla many times, every time I said "no" to my very bossy mother and sister's ideas. Meh, just shrug it off. If you feel like you're ok, and not actually in the wrong, then just do you.

Bridesmaids generally do purchase their own dress and shoes. Everything else should be left up to the bride though shouldn't it?

Not yet...but honestly I'm only expecting them to be sober and dressed. Paying for hair and make up. Don't care about shoes.

I had a bridezilla moment the day before my first wedding, and nobody called me out even though I was totally out of control. Remembering that moment helps me keep my cool in other stressful situations.

A whole lot of smugness going on in this thread I see.

She asked a question. We answered the question. How is that smug?

If you are asking them to purchase anything besides a dress and I'll even go as far as shoes.....then you need to buy it.

Well, the OP wasn't asking about her mother or sister, just her BMs...which leads me to ask what everyone else has asked: What did you ask them to purchase, besides the dress? If all you asked them to purchase were their dresses, and those purchases were based on an agreed upon budget, then they watch too much drama/alcohol fueled television. Anything other than that -- whether it costs them a dime or is a request to act as an unpaid vendor (i.e., help me with my DIYs, set up my reception venue, stay after everyone leaves to clean the reception venue) means that you've earned you the title.

I was never called a Bridezilla when I got married, and even if that term was a part of the current vernacular thirty plus years ago, I wouldn't have been called that name. I let them buy gowns, in the colors I wanted, at the mall. I think it cost them...let me think...less that $60 a piece. I paid for everything else I wanted them to wear (which included nothing beyond a floral head wreathe). I was a dream bride, lol. No DIYs, no pre-wedding parties...nothing. They'd tell anyone that I was a pleasure...to this day (and I'm still close to all of them).

@Rachel wow $60? That's awesome but that was 30+ years ago? For a second I was like do I see hope?? And then you said how long ago it was and it's like oh...it seems to be $100-$150 these days =/

@Natalie Calm down girl...kudos to the bride who's keeping it chill. I see you didn't answer the ultimate question though...have you been a bridezilla? The fact that you didn't answer her question makes me wonder....hmmm....

OP, I haven't been called one yet!! But we're all waiting to hear what you asked your bms to buy?? Please indulge us!

I'd love to know what you're asking your bridesmaids to purchase beyond a dress. And the dress budget should be decided by them not you. To answer your question, no I have not. I asked my bridesmaids to buy a dress of their choice in burgundy. They decide style, and price. They can also wear shoes they already own or buy new ones if they want and I don't care about accessories or hair or makeup. So that leads me back to, what have you asked them to buy?
