Event Insurance??

Jennifer, on December 10, 2012 at 9:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

So, our wedding venue is requiring that we provide proof of Comprehensive General Liability Insurance for the day of the wedding...has anyone looked into this before? My car insurance company gave me a quote for $325 but the venue said it usually costs around $150. Any suggestions, ideas or experiences with a particular company we should look at for a quote?

I would ask your venue for suggestions of local insurance companies that can beat your car insurance company's rates

Also I know online companies do this.

This one gives policies for as low as $75-100:

I refer my clients to http://www.rvnuccio.com/wedding-insurance.html and they love the ease of purchase and it's inexpensive. Should be around the range your venue suggested. Good luck and do get this insurance. Whether or not you use this or any other carrier, it's important for you to have it.

Case in point: If you are serving alcohol and a guest is involved in an accident after leaving your wedding, they can hold you responsible for it as hosts of the wedding. It's a small investment to ensure you're covered from any issues that may arise.

Check with your homeowners or renters insurance company.

Your existing company will usually bargain if you already have multiple policies with them (car, renter's, homeowners, etc.). Getting quotes from other companies listed above could give you some bargaining power. Also, your venue apparently doesn't, but liability can be part of your contract with the venue or other vendors.

Just be sure that you know exactly what your coverage will actually cover.

We were referred to wedsafe.com as well. It should be around $150 and no more than $200.

Yes, do you have homeowners insurance or renters insurance? My homeowners policy will actually cover my wedding. She said they will just raise the limit for the weekend of the wedding and then drop it back and it will maybe add a few pennies to my overall premium.

I know with Markel you can buy liability and cancellation seperately. My friend Lauren said that for her wedding the liability insurance was only $75, so that's what I plan to look into! Best of luck in your search!
