Event Insurance?

Chelsea, on February 5, 2019 at 8:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
Hey everyone! If I choose the venue I am most interested in now, they require event liability insurance to be purchased. How much does this normally cost? Where would you go to get this said insurance?

That is actually something they are supposed to tell you. Normally this is something most venues expect of your vendors not you because you are a client. This is one of those rare times where the venue is asking a client to bring their own insurance. It’s not illegal but most places don’t do that. For me that would be a red flag. I would see if you can contact someone who has used them before and ask about their experience.

Event insurance is rarely a bad idea. It protects you from lots of things. It’s not expensive, couple hundred bucks tops.

Ours requires event insurance. I found it very common when looking at venues. I believe ours is $100 for the whole day(we are not having alcohol its more if you do). We(my parents) are getting it through the current insurance company for their house and cars, allstate. I would recommend checking with your current company and see if they offer it.

It is not particularly expensive. I think we paid about $250 or so for ours but got pretty comprehensive insurance because of the nature of our event— we could’ve gotten cheaper. Most insurance companies can do one, we did ours through our homeowners insurance company. That said, there are also two companies: wedSure and wedSafe that are reputable and specialize in this specifically

It's definitely not terribly expensive. And almost any insurance company can do it. If you have homeowners insurance, ask them about it.

You usually can obtain it through where ever you have auto insurance. For the day it shouldn't be too bad. I'm lucky. My Caterer is covering that in my cost. Good luck

My venue requires this as well and they recommend WedSafe. I think it quoted me about $150 if I were to insure $1 million with 100 guests and alcohol on site.

    Go to theeventhelper.com .
Your vendors can purchased insurance for one day . My venue was making a big deal about liability insurance that covered up to two million dollars , I kept pushing the issue and they finally gave me the website . There is information that you would need to know from your vendor (simple stuff like location etc. , address). The insurance was based on the number of people and location . For one day, ours was like $135. Some vendors already had it , some didn’t .

Just Google it! Although my venue requires it so they provide a contact for it that their couples typically choose so you could always ask your venue! I heard it usually is around $60-160 🤷

I got mine through progressive, it covered if anything happened during my event with host alcohol included. We paid $98 which was much cheaper than wedsafe which is more popular.
I could have added on to my homeowners, State Farm, but they didn’t cover alcohol.

Get it through your home or car insurance place. I think we were told we could get $1,000,000 for $300 or $300,000 was covered with my home owners coverage already. Not too bad and well worth it!

This is normal, I would not consider it a red flag (although not every venue requires it). This will cover *your* liability, which is different than the liability your vendors have, which cover *their* liability. For liability only it will probably be around $150 through wedsafe or wedsecure. You can add things like cancellation insurance for a couple hundred more (i.e. if there is a freak storm and your wedding gets cancelled, or if your caterer goes out of business and you loose your deposit). You can also usually add a one day event endorsement to your homeowners policy and up your liability to one million for a nominal fee.

We got a one-off policy through the company we had rental insurance through. it was a few hundred dollars - slightly cheaper than a similar policy that parents were looking at through their homeowners insurance.

This is definitely normal. I've heard great things about Athos Insurance 's special even insurance from friends.

Mine was cheap, just under $100 I think it was a while ago. I googled event insurance and looked at different options. I think the one I went with was through Progressive. I did it all online and got my certificate showing I had insurance for my event.
Someone above mentioned that Individual vendors should be insured, but event insurance covers you should anything happen to the venue during your event.
