Eucalyptus or Ferns?

FutureMrsBeeson, on August 16, 2017 at 5:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I am planning a garden style wedding and am trying to decide between accenting all our flower arrangements and decor with eucalyptus or ferns. Flowers will be whatever is in season in a variety of colors.

I think both eucalyptus and ferns are gorgeous, but can't decide which will make a bigger impact. It may come down to cost/availability.

What are your thoughts?

There are different types of eucalyptus (something i discovered at my florist). silver dollar euc are those more rounded leaves and seeded euc are the longer, flat leaves. i think ferns will add more volume if that's what you're looking for.

i personally prefer the look of seeded eucalyptus.

I never considered allergies. I am allergic to a lot and many people in my family have allergies. Is it common to be allergic to eucalyptus?

I feel like ferns and eucalyptus have very different looks. I suppose ferns have a bigger impact because they're well, bigger but I prefer the look of eucalyptus.

I looooove seeded eucalyptus and it's going to be in my bouquet! I think ferns are nice too though! They definitely give me a more earthy woodsy vibe but it's whatever you prefer really!

If you have severe allergies, I would think about silk flowers. You could also buy some flowers similar to what you would like (same flower types but perhaps different colors) and see if you react to carrying them around and/or sitting near them.

Is everyone in agreement that it's an either/or question and that it could be too much to have both ferns and eucalyptus as decor?

I haven't come across any pictures of bouquets or centerpieces that use eucalyptus and ferns. They're different shades of green and I'm not sure it would look good together. Personally I love the look of eucalyptus, and I think you can mix the different kinds to add texture.
