Etsy DIY Wedding Invitations

NoMore, on November 22, 2015 at 11:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

Has anyone purchased the template for your invitations on Etsy and had them printed elsewhere? Have you seen this done? How was your experience? Where were they printed from? I'm considering doing this but am concerned about the paper and color quality. Also, where did you get the envelopes from??

I'm DIYing my own but not using a Template, just doing my own design. I got paper at Hobby Lobby that I plan to print at work and cut each one using a paper trimmer (I love pain apparently). I'm purchasing pockets and envelopes from CardsandPockets.com. I would suggest Cardsandpockets for paper quality, but it may get pricey. Vistaprint is a good bet for cheaper prices and you can upgrade the paper.

I will be using cards and pockets for the envelopes and printing the invitations.

Vista Print printed our template. We upgraded to their linen paper and it was totally worth it. They send thinner envelopes, but you can upgrade those too. We chose not to since no one is going to keep the envelope. Maybe the invite, but definitely not the envelope.

I am having an Etsy shop design my STDs, invites and response cards and I'm leaning toward having them printed through Vistaprint based on the positive experiences I've read from other brides on here. Even without a sale, Vistaprint's prices were really affordable to me, so I'm looking forward to what their Black Friday sale might be.

I used vistaprint too (only save the dates so far) but we are very happy with what we received. They shipped very quickly as well. I have used vistaprint for business items as well and have never had a bad experience with them.

I'm hoping to do this. I've found STD's, Invitations, and RSVP cards from Etsy that I really like. I plan to have them printed with Vistaprint. Crossing my fingers that all goes well.

I use Etsy templates for everything. My dad is a printer so obviously that's where I do my printing but I did just do our Christmas cards through Vista print and was happy with the price and quality. You can always use cards and pockets if you want fancy envelopes or embellishments. I used them for my pocketfolds. Their samples are great and ship super fast.

I bought an Etsy file for my RD invites and just got them printed this weekend. I had them printed at Office Max and they came out great! They had a good selection of paper to choose from, but they will print on paper that you bring in as well if you want. I bought a pack of shimmery card stock that I brought in and they didn't have any problems with using it. They were 5x7 flat invites which needed the A7 envelopes...which seem impossible to find anywhere in an actual store, so I ordered those from Amazon. I'm not 100% happy with the envelope quality...they are thin. I bought the ones that are lined with silver foil, but they neglect to tell you it's only lined half way so you can still see through half the envelope. Oh well...if it were for my actual invites I'd have sent them back, but I'm ok with it for the RD Smiley winking

@Summer, did you print on 5X7 cardstock, or did you bring in regular sheets and cut them apart? I'm curious because I'm dreading feeding my RSVP cards into my home printer to print them out true to size Smiley sad

I ordered my entire invitation suite from a designer on Etsy, and had them printed at Staples on standard cardstock that I purchased from Michaels. I used basic 5x7 white envelopes for save-the-date cards, but will use nicer envelopes from envelopes.com.

Figuring out where to print was the most stressful; I couldn't get consistent results on any printer, except at Staples. They came out perfect! I printed everything on standard 8.5x11 sheets and cut out each card.

I bought the paper cutter at Staples as well. It took me a few nights in front of the TV to cut everything out, but it wasn't that bad. I like tedious tasks.

I used coupons for EVERYTHING and shopped when paper was on sale. My entire costs for the design, printing, paper and envelope supplies, and cutter was actually cheaper than vistaprint.

The Etsy designer charged me $50 the following in the suite: 5x7 STD's and ceremony card, 4x6 reception, 4x6 directions card, 4x3 accommodations card, rsvp, thank you card, rehearsal dinner invite, and a menu card. She allowed three revisions to get everything perfect.

I've fairly pleased with my results. Worth the time and effort. Saved a TON of money.

I designed my own, purchased the paper and envelopes off paper-paper.com and printed them off at Office Max.

I designed our invitations in Photoshop and had them printed through Vista Print. If you're not up to designing them, I'd let someone on etsy design them that has good reviews and have them printed through VP. We upgraded to the linen paper and it was totally worth it for invites (STD's we used their matte card stock - invitations we wanted something thicker). The only problem with VP is their envelopes are so thin, so we used them for the STDs but bought envelopes separately from Paper Source and they were wonderful! We saved a ton of money going that route.

@Jenni, the Etsy seller set up the file so that it would print 2 of the 5x7 invites per one piece of 8x10 cardstock. She included cutting guidelines in the file as well, so the lady at Office Max was easily able to cut them down for me with their machine.

Yes, we got ours made custom for us from an etsy shop and then printed them using catprint.com. I think all in all it turned out to be $125 for the etsy product, 100 printed invitations and envelopes. The photo is one very similar to ours.

Just wondering, for those of you that printed them through Vista Print, how many did you have printed and what was your price, if you don't mind me asking? Also did they print the RSVP card and any other inserts to size or did you have to do that separately?

Yes! It was a great experience. I was very fortunate and able to print my invitations at work for a very small fee. The woman I ordered my invitation template through was super helpful and told me what size paper, envelopes, everything I needed to order. She recommended paperandmore.com and that's where I ordered from. Decent pricing and great quality.

Her shop name on Etsy is Inside Your Inbox and her name is Nicole. She's currently out on maternity leave, but if you send her a message, she'll most likely get back to you. She's crazy responsive. The picture below is not of my invitations, but of the invitation suite.
