Estranged Parents and song choice

Autumn, on August 9, 2017 at 10:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I dont talk to either of my parents. They're not even invited to our wedding (even made it out of town bc of my mother) my son from a previous marriage is walking me down the aisle, my FH and I also have a little baby boy. My FMIL is stokes to do the mother son dance with my FH... Ideas on a dance for me to do with my boys? I thought maybe my FH and I both dancing with our boys but what kind of song? A mother/son song? Lol

Plot twist, this is a double wedding so my FMIL is dancing with both her boys through the whole song chosen, so splitting the song for my boys and I is kinda taking her moment away which I don't want to do.

Suggestions?

Lol thats what I meant! I edited it. Dang typos! My FBIL and his fiance got engaged a few weeks after us and its so much easier for out of town family on the grooms side to attend one big one instead of 2 in a close time (we both wanted fall).

So are you four using all of the same vendors? Are your colors going to compliment? Same decorating styles?

Props if you actually work it out, because I'm getting a stress headache just thinking about all of that.

Haha its been great so far. His parents did one when they got married with her sister. We have different bridesmaids, different BM dress colors but everything else is the same yet different. Like they dont have kids we do so our portion is geared towards already having a family. For the unity ours (my FH and I) is going to be a molding for the kids and our hands we reveal. They are doing a wine box. Shes doing a traditional bouquet toss, I'm giving mine to the longest couple. We are really close and have the same ideas so its been easy so far! Check with me in about 8 weeks hehe

What kind of music/genres do you and your sons enjoy? Do you have any special songs you used to play or sing for them while they were babies? Without knowing these things, it's a little hard to give suggestions.

Confused -if it's a double wedding wouldn't you each do your own first dances and/or parent/child dances? Or is the idea to combine EVERYTHING?

I should have included that! Eek! We usually dance to silly hop around kind of songs or country.

We are doing seperate first/special dances except the mother son one. Shes doing half the song with my FH and then the other half with FBIL.

Hmmm, okay well in that case I might recommend something like I Hope You Dance by LeeAnn Womack or Through the Years by Garth Brooks. They're both beautiful life songs that could fit all parties involved in this case.

ETA: My apologies, this is a Kenny Rogers song not Garth Brooks, in case you were confused.

What if the other couple gets divorced? Will it ruin the anniversary for you?

Not at all! Their marriage will have no bearings on mine.
