Escort Card Meal Symbols

J, on April 30, 2018 at 12:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 17
My wedding coordinator said that we need to have some type of symbol and on our escort cards to let the waiters know which meal the guest is having. She suggested getting a chicken, fish, or veggie stamp. If you are having a plated meal are you using stamps like that and if so where did you get them? Or are you designating which meal each guest is getting a different way? Thank you!

I am doing stickers I got from Etsy specifically for this purpose. I’m on my phone so I can’t post a picture for some reason (???), but my 3 plated meals are chicken, vegan, and steak. So I order the cow, chicken, and carrot stickers in black (I felt they were more sophisticated/ less intrusive as a “silhouette” rather than a color). I ordered extras of each as though 100% of people would get steak, 60% would get chicken, and 40% would get vegan since at the time I ordered I only had around 20 RSVPs. They were not very expensive.

I was told the symbols could be anything including different colored tags so I’m thinking about writing the names in different colors maybe?

There are dozens of ideas on Pinterest to indicate choice of entree.

You can use different color cards, ribbons, stamps, stickers, stick on jewels etc.

I got those little shiny star stickers, like we used to get back in school. Each dinner will have a different color, red meat, blue fish. Etc... I will put the stickers on the escort cards and also provide caterer with a list of who gets what per table.

I never even thought of this! I had planned to just write out steak or fish on the escort card! Very interesting to know! I’ll have to look at some of those Pinterest searches now. Is there a reason not to just write it out? Or is this just preference? I’m learning as I go with wedding planning!

My cards are trimmed in different colors to match my color scheme. Each color (3) represents the meal selection.

I used a legend with trees where 3 trees = beef, 2 trees = fish, and 1 tree = chicken.

Each guest will have a specific seat, so we will be giving a chart to the caterer. Their name cards will be at their table, to indicate which seat is theirs, and there will be a mirror with their name and table number up front.

I think it’s probably okay to write it out. I think some people might just prefer symbols because you can make them cute if you want to. I guess it also might be slightly easier for the waiters to just glance at a symbol rather than read words written on the escort cards.

Thanks to everyone for your replies!

We got foil star stickers and used a different color for each choice. They were like $2 for 500 at Walmart.

I made our place cards myself. I went to Office Depot and bought tented cards in Ivory. The specific card makers (if that makes sense) have templates online that have borders. I found one that looked elegant and wedding-y. I typed everyone’s name in a cursive font and then I found clip art silhouettes of a cow, a chicken, a fish, and a carrot and pasted them underneath the name. It cost me less than $20 total!
