Error on wedding program

Heather, on May 1, 2017 at 8:49 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

I received my wedding program and after realized in two different sections I duplicated the same word. I was devastated Smiley sad

What should I do? The paper is white so I was thinking to try white out tape?? I'm not sure it that would draw more attention to it or not?? I have time to reprint but really don't want to spend money printing again. Need advice!! Thanks ladies photo included!

I honestly would just leave it.

Because of reading patterns, most people won't notice the duplicate, especially if it's on two different lines and often still have trouble even after they've been told there is a mistake, which is probably why you didn't catch it in the proof. Especially because people will likely be reading them quickly, it'll be harder to catch.

ETA: I didn't notice the 'you' until I read the other comments and I'd read through it a few times.

I see two errors. Personally, it would bug me and I would just skip on the programs since they're unnecessary or have them re printed.

Yeah, I only noticed the you you and had to really look to find the other pair. I don't think your family and friends will be judging you and your wedding based on a simple typo. If it really bothers you and you can afford the reprint, I would probably do it (not knowing how much that actually costs, so maybe not)

Id leave it. No need to waste money already spent or spend more money to reprint. Very few may even notice it.

Honestly, I didn't see the repeated "you" until I read it the second time. I read it first, and then had to go back and see what your complaint was, and then I had to go back and find it. I didn't spot the "have have" until someone else pointed it out.

You're probably fine. Also, we're human and mistakes will happen. I don't think anyone would hold it against you if they saw it. But, if it upsets you, then either exclude them or redo them. White out would leave a huge block in the middle of the first sentence and that would be more obvious than repeated word.

For the future for you, a trick I have learned about proofreading is to read the item out loud. You are more likely to find errors that way because you slow down the process.

Leave it and use them anyway. I didn't even notice the first time I read through it.

This would bug the crap out of me personally, as the bride.....as a guest, I may notice it, but wouldn't remember it or care. If you don't want to spend the money reprinting, you can skip them all together... programs aren't necessary.

I had to read through multiple times to find the errors. Honestly, if your ceremony starts on time your guests will likely not even read it twice and notice the errors. It is obviously up to you, but I think the white out tape would be more noticeable than the errors themselves.

Reprint the program." Whiteout Tape" is unacceptable. I am surprised your printer didn't catch the error. Most goes thru some sort of spelling/Grammar check program!

This would bother me also, and some of my friends who are word geeks would point it out. I don't recommend the white tape - I think that would look worse. My vote would be to NOT distribute them or have them reprinted.

Another option would be to have the program written/printed on a fixture in the venue. Check Pinterest for ideas.

I had to read it 5 times to find any errors at all, and you had specifically told us what to look for. If I were a guest at your wedding I would never notice it.

Although it would be extremely odd syntax, it would be grammatically correct if you set the "you all" apart with a pair of commas (Thank you, you all, for celebrating...). That would be a quick fix that wouldn't require reprinting. As for the second mistake (double "have"), you could easily cover up one of them because they are at the end and beginning of lines.

However, I think you'd be better off reprinting them. The programs are the one piece of paper your guests are likely to pay attention to the most, as they'll be holding it for a while and reading it while they wait (or if your ceremony lags).

Well I had to read it four times before I saw it... so there's that. If it were mine I would redo it. But had you not said anything I probably never would have seen it. Haha.

I saw the you you right away but it took me forever to notice the have have. As a guest I am more likely to use your program as a fan than I am to read it. I didn't have programs so I certainly wouldn't spend the money to redo them.

I would leave it, and my first Bachelor's degree is in English. People won't notice, and frankly, if they do, it would be a minor point.

I had to reprint mine because FH spelled his uncle's name wrong in the groomsmen section. THAT was necessary to reprint in my mind. It was Quentin, not Quinton. Sigh. I just couldn't let that go! Smiley smile

Our wedding is July 1st, and it most likely will be hot so I turned ours into the program, dinner menu, a giant thank you note and a fan with a stick on it.

Hang in there and don't worry. Smiley smile

It took me multiple times reading through to even realize, I wouldn't worry about it

I don't think anyone will notice. It was hard to find! I say forgo them or just say YOLO and leave them as is.

I didn't even notice! I had to read through it twice before I saw it so I wouldn't worry! People likely won't notice and it's not worth the extra cost.
