Envelopes & Place cards- print or hand write?

Futuremrs, on October 1, 2018 at 4:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Hello! How did you all address your envelopes and how do you make your place cards if you are using them? Did you write by hand or print these? Thanks for suggestions!

I hand wrote our save the dates, but I don't love my handwriting. I ordered our invites from Minted so there was free address printing for those which looks so pretty but i have to hand write a few peoples who moved.

For escort cards I'm also ordering those on Minted so it'll all look pretty and match and that'll be about $100 to buy them with the free name printing.

You can also order envelopes on Minted and have the addresses printed. Before we ordered our invites there I considered doing this. 100 envelopes would have only been about $30 and looked better than my handwriting. But remember no matter what you choose, it all ends up in the trash anyhow so if you don't want to spend the extra money for better writing then just hand write them, no one will be bothered!

I found a local woman who does modern calligraphy on the side, she hand wrote our guest addresses for $0.60 an envelope & I got a stamp for return addresses. For escort cards, I'm ordering them online!

I'm going to hand write all of them. I don't have the best handwriting ever, but it's good enough. Especially for the envelopes, I feel like no one is going to think twice about that... they will probably just open the invitation and throw the envelope out! Of course, there is nothing wrong with hiring a calligrapher or having them printed, but for us at least I didn't feel it was worth the expense or the hassle when I can write perfectly well myself.

My FH on the other hand, is a different story. His "neat" handwriting is still nearly illegible lol. If we both had handwriting that was THAT bad, I definitely would've prioritized having them printed or hiring someone, or even asking a relative/bridesmaid with better handwriting to do it for us!

I was considering doing this! Did they come out okay? I was going to hand write, and will if the clear labels don’t work out for whatever reason, but I wouldn’t be able to do them all at once. I get sloppy handwriting after a while lol!

Basicinvites will address my outer envelopes for free and I'll write the inner envelopes. I'll probably print off place cards or order them. Depends how the budget is doing when I get that far haha

I hand-wrote our invitations, and they had the return address and RSVP address pre-printed. For our escort cards, I bought ones that were several to a sheet that could be printed on my home printer.

I think I’m hand writing everything. I like my handwriting and I just don’t want to pay for that.

They came out great! I don't have a picture of the envelope with a label on it but here's a picture of my escort card tags. I love that you can pick any font or color you want. I don't think you can even tell that they were stickers.

We used labels for our invitation envelopes. I made our escort cards on my Cricut and used that to write in the names and table numbers.

I hand calligraphied our envelopes, escort cards, seating chart, reserved signs, as well as a couple other signs. I know none of them are perfect and I'm trying to be ok with them! Example, this mirror I think looks really good - but it's off centered. Smiley amazing

I hand wrote everything. I don’t have the nicest writing but it’s neat. I feel most people won’t notice anyway.

I used Minted for my invites and you can upload your address book. I've only hand written the last minute guest invites.

We hand wrote envelopes, 92 with both of us working took almost 1½ hours. We quit after an hour the first night, hands tired, finished the next. Only possible because out address list was all up to fate, with assigned numbers so we would quickly write our own number on RSVP card, and number invited, as we began to stuff each one. I have helped other people and quickly became frustrated because the guest list was missing some titles, some had city under names but no street address. Stopping to ask questions and lol things up, or call people, makes it am 8 hour job for 100-125. List needs to be complete, before you start. I had been going to use a couple's first names only, Sue and George, and my FMIL told me, you cannot do that, it will not work. But she nor FI were around when I started them, and I liked casual sound, bigger writing with no last names. Until I got to FI's family. Fathers and sons with same nickname, sometimes same birth name (Jr) often different. And a grandfather whose 5 sons named children for him, 5 first cousins same name. And fully half the women saint's names Theresa, Teresa, Marie, Maria. There were even 3 Carl and Maria 's, and 4 Tony and Marie. All with same surname . So I had to start over and ask for formal names to differentiate Giancarlo , Carl, Carlo, Giancarlo Jr. Throughout to family, with surnames. And a separate place are for every person, 3 long Italian surnames. Seems so easy. But in doing other dinner parties, or helping with other people's weddings, never had so many people with just a few Saints names, men and women, and names anglecized between grandfather and son and grandson. Two called John, one really Gianni, Giuseppe Joseph, Joel all called Joe. If we had hired someone to print or address them, it would have been impossible.

I think most people get them printed, but I'm thinking of handwriting our envelopes. Not sure yet though
