Entree Selections on Place Cards?

Jillian, on December 10, 2016 at 12:59 PM Posted in Planning 1 20

In reading over the contract from my venue, they have a stipulation where if you opt for a plated service, they require not only a seating chart but some sort of indicator on the place card of which entree the guest selected. I verified that it -can- be on front or back, and that it can be something small (rather than writing out 'chicken' it can be a "C"). Anyone else come across this with their venue? If so, what did you end up doing?

I'm thinking I'll end up doing it on the back, and maybe use small colored circle stickers (like you can get at an office supply store) but I'd be open to other suggestions. I also considered (briefly) having different types or colors of place cards done up once I got the RSVPs back, but I'm thinking that may be too much work.

I've heard people color code the cards, so yellow = chicken, red = beef, green = vegetarian etc.

You can also get small stickers or 3D labels with the same idea. Art Stores have beautiful flowers or gemstones that you could also color code. Just stick them on the place card so it's prominent enough to see.

I have seen people use small stamps/stickers in the shape of a cow, chicken, and (I think) carrot. I have also seen people use different color dots or star stickers to indicate the meal choice.

ETA: I don't think that putting whatever you end up choosing on the back would work. How would the servers see the mark?

I have seen the color coded cards, also different colors for child/kosher/vegan meals.

Something like this. I used fancier ones with silk petals for an afternoon tea once.

Mine requires it, we are doing something like this... it's a cow and chicken stamp for each entree. Simple and cute to

I freaking hate this; first of all, one person in every couple didn't look at the invite, the other one picked for them, and when they get their plate they'll ask for the other. Most of our venues take orders at the table; less mayhem.

    I'd opt for colored stickers.

I think most venues do this. A friend of mine put little gold chicken and cow stamps on hers. I'm going to do something similar.

We used gold, silver, and green stars, on the back. We also had to make a list of how many entrees, of which of 3 kinds, should be brought to each table, for each table number.

The server at my parents' table asked each guest what their choice was, anyway. At least they were sitting there and the band wasn't overly loud. I can see where stickers would be necessary if the guests weren't at their seats (my social circle has dancing between courses), or with a horrifically loud band.

Mine asks that we actually write out chicken, steak, veg. on the place card. I will put it on the back. The event coordinator told us that is the easiest for the staff. She also told me that they take into account that someone will their mind and have extras on hand of each dish to serve.

My colors are white and silver, i was thinking about having two types of place cards, for example chicken will be glitter silver and Salmon flat silver or white. It should work and still look good

We had two flowers (sunflowers and cotton bolls) and pictures of each represented a meal choice.

I used colored gemstone stickers on the bottom right corner. The waiters had the color code.

We have to do this - using stick on diamonds and pearls on the front of the place cards. Got them at the Hobby Lobby. Diamonds = chicken, pearls = beef.

I attended a wedding yesterday and the bride and groom had our place cards on a pin board with our name and table number, on the back our entree was written. We would grab our card and sit at the table specified. When it was time for dinner we all turned our place cards over so the waitstaff knew what we were eating (beef or fish). It worked out smoothly.
