Entree Choices

Sierra, on May 2, 2024 at 3:28 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

We are looking to do a plated dinner with entree choices when the guest RSVP's. Would it be weird to not include a red meat option? We were looking to do a chicken, pork and salmon option (with a vegetarian as well) is that weird? Would guests like that?

Thanks so much in advance! Smiley heart

Those are great options! Guests really shouldn't be critical of "no red meat" when there is a nice variety like that to choose from. I was pretty surprised to see that most of our guests chose our fish entree over prime rib! (but then again, we are in Florida and most were coming from the north, so maybe they wanted locally sustained food?) As long as the food is tasty, well prepared and a healthy portion your guests will be fine.

As someone who doesn't like salmon or pork and doesn't eat meat with bones, I would probably pick the chicken and hope it's boneless chicken. If I got chicken with bones, I just wouldn't eat it then so I wouldn't have a meat to eat.

I think that’s a good variety of meats. You’ll never please everyone, but most people can find an option they can eat from there.

You don’t have to provide red meat, any more than if you were hosting a dinner party at home.

I know some venues require it but I prefer allowing guests to order from their tables rather than weeks ahead. I’d limit to three entrees including vegetarian if it meant I didn’t have to include meal choices on the RSVP. Most people will eat salmon or chicken.

That’s impossible to answer without knowing what precisely you plan to serve (how it is prepared, what sauces and sides are with it). The same applies when you are listing options on the reply card. Guests can’t tell what type of chicken you are serving vs some other main meal choice, but it’s also considered “inappropriate and inconvenient” inexplicably to give full details so guests have information to avoid blind decisions. What is the chicken choice and is it boneless? Guests don’t want to eat with their hands when they are dressed up. Many people don’t eat pork due to religious reasons and it’s not known for being a “sanitary” choice, and seafood is divisive. Before you decide anything, take a poll of your VIP guests who are attending (parents, siblings, closest friends, etc) to see what they will eat/drink so that there is no waste.

I think that those are great options. I am sure the guests could fine something they like with those options. Do not put to much worry on this issue, it is your wedding and you are not going please everyone.

Like a previous poster mentioned, I (like many people I know) don’t eat pork or meat from the bone. I think as long as the chicken is boneless, and the vegetarian option is available to everyone, then not serving a red meat should fine.
