Entertainment ideas for reception

Shawna, on January 5, 2018 at 10:59 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17
Most weddings have an entertainment element at the reception. A photo booth, fire swallower, farm animals, r&b singer, whateves. All the weddings I’ve been to in the last 5 yrs did a photo booth so I want something different without paying a ton. My top choices are caricature artists or a second line band performance. Both options run about $600-800There is a dj but I just wanted a little something extra for guests to interact with. Anyone have less expensive ideas for a fun element for the reception of 130 guests? ...or should I just do a groupon photo booth like everyone else (sigh)?

^Where do you live that that is normal?????

You dont even need the photoboth. As long as there is a fully hosted bar and food, you're good. People will mingle, eat and drink.

I disagree that most weddings have a photo booth, fire swallower, farm animals, or r&b singer. You're right that most have an element of entertainment. It's the DJ or band. Of all the weddings I've been to in the last several years, one had a photo booth. None had all that other stuff you're talking about. All had a DJ. Save yourself unnecessary money spent. Host an open bar and hire a DJ.

People don't need something to entertain themselves...as long as you have good, drinks, and a decent DJ guests should be plenty entertained. I personally am not a fan of photo booths and where I live people pay tons of money for them and they aren't really used.

I haven't been to a wedding that had any of those "entertainment" ideas. Give yourself a reality check and stop watching so called "reality" shows on tv. They're not real.

We're doing a photo booth (very popular in our circles). I considered a caricature artist but I'd have to hire several to cover all my guests so we're skipping.

I'm curious about the farm animals...

Have you been to a wedding with farm animals and fire swallowers?? At work we once did a Kentucky Derby party and had ponies and even that was a bit extra. I think you may be worrying for nothing. Good food, good music, and booze. This is what people want from an event. Good luck!

My wedding is on Easter so when I did research many blogs and magazines suggested bringing in animals like bunnies. Not my thing. But yes I’d have to hire at least 2 caricature artists and that’s very expensive. Photo booths are popular in my circles as well. Thanks for the comments!

Hmmm initial comments have me reconsidering the entertainment element. We will have open bar, we will have a dj. Comments have been helpful thanks!

We're getting married on a farm that happens to have farm animals, general store, pond to fish, train car, old soda shop and a built in photo booth in the reception space. I think we got a good deal in the venue.

I guess I thought it was part of the formula to have that element but I’m thinking otherwise now.
Photo booth: I’ve experienced too many times
fire swallower: saw on TLC wedding show
farm animals: my wedding is on easter so blogs and magazines suggested bringing in cute baby animals...no thx
r&b singer: over experinecd and was nice. But then what’s the point of a dj?

That’s sounds nice! The farm animals would definately be fitting for your theme and venue. I’m getting married in a historic courthouse lol I think the animals fit with the right theme for sure

I heard from a friend that they recently went to a wedding that had a tattoo artist there to give tattoos on the spot.. maybe consider that option!

Hmm my wedding didn't have any of that. But, it had a dance floor that was packed the entire night. I agree that hosted bar, dinner and a dj should be enough.

One thing that I had that people keep talking about it was props throughout the night at the dance floor. This is very common in Mexico, it's called carnaval. And, it does make the night more fun Smiley smile

I agree with the top comment. People will eat and drink and want to talk to you and your new husband. They will also be happy mingling with others
