Engraved Wedding Bands - Who has them? What's the width?

LindseyK17, on March 2, 2017 at 8:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

FH and I have been looking at wedding bands together. He's mentioned a few times now that it would mean a lot to him for us to engrave our bands with the same phrase his parents have. I think that's beyond sweet and I would love to, but when we were trying on bands the saleslady said the minimum width was 3mm for an engraved band, which seemed way too big and awkward with my engagement ring.

A part of me believes that she's wrong about the 3mm width but I have nothing to base that on. So I'm asking you guys - if you have an engraved wedding band, what was the width? And where did you get it engraved? A local jeweler or national place like Zales/Helzberg/Kay/etc?

I'm hoping that I can find someplace that will engrave 1 1/2 - 2mm band but I have no idea if that's even realistic.

ETA- clarity

Do you like what is engraved on his parents' bands? That would be a deciding factor for me.

I don't have a for sure answer but on the website I have been surfing to look at bands there option to engrave on the 2mm size. I haven't complete an order so perhaps they would not honor it but it is there.

FH got his engraved with the same thing that was used on his grandfathers ring but with our initials. IDK about size but his looks like a standard probably more leaning towards the small size band to me.

A friend of mine has a 1.5mm band that is engraved and the engraving is so tiny you can't even read the words. She was bummed but looks at it like she knows it's there and what it says, and that's all that matters to her. ETA spelling.

My band is 2mm and it is engraved. We went to a local jeweler who also did custom design work.

Nancy - I do, and that's why I'm looking for information about the width. I would like it to be engraved, I was just hoping to hear from other brides about their bands, if they got them engraved and what the width is.

Daniella, thanks for that! I think I'd be ok with not being able to read it, because it really is more important that I know what it says than that- it's going to be on my finger most of the time anyway.

And lovin'life & phyre&phlyte - that's great to know. I think I just need to try on 2mm bands to see if that's any better than the chunky looking 3mm band.

They can be engraved but like another person posted it'll be tiny. To get an idea does your ring have 14k or something stamped already? It'll be about the same size depending on which font you use.

My first wedding band was 1.5 mm and I was working at a jewelry store when we got married. It fit in the engraving machine just fine and that was the old school kind where they manually engraved it. I would think 1.5 would be fine with today's technology.
