Engagement session and save the date timeline

Arianna, on September 10, 2019 at 1:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi everyone! I’m trying to figure out when we should get our engagement pictures taken. My wedding is April 2021 so I figured I would send the save the dates out September(ish) 2020. Taking photos in the summer time is out of the question as my FH can’t stand being in the heat that long. Would it look weird if we did a winter engagement session if we’re sending out our save the dates in September?

If your engagement photos from the winter included snow or ice all around you, I do think it might look a little funny if people got those at the end of summer lol.

Unless you're having a destination wedding, you could ideally wait until November to send your save the dates. The weather should be cooler by October, right? If not, you could always take photos indoors somewhere, maybe an art museum or something? Just a few ideas! Smiley smile

We live in northern Michigan so it will definitely be cold in November! Thanks for the idea😊

I think it would be a little funny looking if you are not doing a winter wedding. Maybe shoot for sometime around your actual wedding date or wait until October, November when it is cooler.

I think a winter session will be wonderful and sept 2020 will be perfect timing.

I don't think so! I wouldn't mind if I got a save the date in September 2020 and you had snow in the pictures. We took pictures in August and sent them out late October, so we took them in warmer weather and sent them out with snow on the ground.

Could you do them in spring of 2020?

That’s always an option too! I’m having a hard time figuring out a nice location for the pictures. We could always do them on the bay which is where our venue is. Unfortunately that’s kind of the only nice view/location in the spring.

I second this. We’re doing ours in November & wedding will be in November of the following year. It just happened to work out that way with our photographer but I like that people will kind of know what to expect & get a feeling for the mood.

Our wedding is in June, but we will be doing fall engagement pictures. I just knew it wouldn't be cute for us to sweat outside for an hour and a half in June heat. No thank you. Fall is my favorite season anyway.

I'm also getting married in April 2021 and we are trying to do ours this fall. I love summer and my FH loves winter. (my FH also can't stand being in the heat so I thought for our middle ground fall was good)
