Engagement Ring to be “worn with Extreme Caution?”

Rebecca, on October 2, 2019 at 8:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
My FH got my E-ring from Allurez. Within a month it had two missing stones and we had to send it back and fight them to fix it. We got it back after two months and within four days, it was missing another stone. My FH called to complain and they informed him their jewelry is designed to be worn “delicately with extreme caution”. Apparently removing my hair tie was too strenuous for this ring and they told him brushing your hair should not be done while wearing it. Has anyone heard of something like this? Basically I’m supposed to walk around with my hand out and not breathe too hard or I could break it 🙄.

That is ridiculous. I would take it to a local jeweler and have them look at it. I lost my main stone before, turns out they had the wrong prongs and that’s why it fell out. Now it doesn’t wiggle or move after we went to our new jeweler.
Hope this helps!! Ps would love to see the ring!

Oh gosh! I'm sorry that's happened! What a ridiculous claim on their end. I know people call rings delicate but I dont think that really means it's supposed to be super fragile!

Yeah.....that's not right. My family works in the jewelry industry as wholesalers. I have never heard of that. They are just trying to cover up a shoddy product. As a previous poster said, see if you can take it to a jeweler to have them assess it. Is there any sort of return policy?

They’ve offered to “fix” it again but refuse returns because they “stand by their product”. We got s quote from a local jeweler and it’ll be about $1000 to make it right.

That sounds like a bad excuse that they gave you! A ring should definitely be able to withstand tying your hair in a ponytail. I would start looking at other engagement rings, unfortunately. You shouldn't have to be on pins and needles everyday because of a faulty ring!

Are they charging you to fix it? Let them fix it this time and then if it's still falling apart, just see if you can go up the managerial food chain until you get someone who will give you a refund. They have multiple complaints on BBB, so this may be a pattern. Maybe some review online shares how they resolved the issue.

They won’t even let us talk to a manager and this is the third issue we’ve had! It took over two months for them to get it back and it was instantly broken again.

Check their BBB reviews. Your complaint is fairly common.

What kind of stone is it? Their setting is cheap and it’s worth it to either have it fixed properly or get a new one.

I have never heard of anything so ridiculous. They are taking advantage of you and it’s not okay. If you love the ring, try paying a reputable jeweler to fix it or start shopping for a new ring (even if it’s an inexpensive placeholder) and leave reviews to warn other brides.

That’s definitely not right!! Take it to another jeweler! A similar situation happened to me, but I’ve never had a nice piece of jeweley like that before so I thought it was me. Within a day one of my small diamonds fell out and then I lost another! So the jeweler said it was because the ring was too big and objects were hitting my ring before my hand? Even though I never wear my ring at work or when cleaning. So we paid for a resizing and he covered the diamonds. Meanwhile, 6 months later I’m at my other job where I don’t use chemicals or anything that would be a danger to my ring and I moved my hand by my head and heard a jiggle. The big diamond was loose! I had my fiancé bring it in because the jeweler was kind of condescending to me, acting as if I’m someone who doesn’t care for my things. He fixed it up, but now I’m on constant high alert. I asked other women I know and they all said that’s completely wrong, everything should be tight and in place and that’s the jewelers fault. Definitely get it checked out by another jeweler !

I have banged my ring around, dropped it 100000x, our gloves over it etc and not one stone has moved.

There is no way that your ring should not survive something as gentle as taking off a hair tie. The diamonds must be weakly set. I would plaster reviews on Yelp, google, everything and call the company (not the salespeople you are dealing with) to speak to someone with some sense!!

Definitely take it to a reputable jeweler. Make sure that:

    1. They are real diamonds. Softer stones will chip easily, which makes them become loose in the setting.

    2. The metal is really gold or platinum. Softer metals will bend easily, making the prongs become loose.

At this point, I'd look into getting a new ring with a reputable jeweler that has an actual store in your area. You should be able to walk in and talk to a manager if there is a problem. A ring isn't a fancy gadget. It's an investment... both emotionally and financially.

An engagement ring is something you’re going to wear forever. It should be able to withstand ADLs without losing anything, if you can’t wear it for little things, what’s the point of having it?? I’m sorry you’re going through this!

That's ridiculous of them to say. I wear my ring 24/7 except for when I shower. I bang it on things and it gets snagged and i have never had an issue. Sounds like they are basically saying the ring isn't made too well :/
