Engagement Ring size issue

Samantha, on September 19, 2019 at 8:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

So my engagement ring during the average day fits great on my finger. However, my fingers shrink and swell a lot throughout the day if I'm cold or hot. When my fingers swell my ring feels really tight but when I'm cold and they shrink my ring is loose enough to fall off. I obviously want to wear my ring all the time but I'm terrified of losing it. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there anything I can do?

Yes. Mine doesn't get loose enough to fall off but in the winter or in my cold office it often spins around. On a typical day it fits perfect. I went back to the jeweler to ask about it and they wouldn't make it smaller for me since it fits so well on a normal day. I just live with it. Hopefully someone else will have better advice but just wanted to say I have the same issue!

I would order sizing beads from Amazon and just use them when necessary. My fingers also swell pretty bad in the summer and I just have to wear a silicone ring. Have you tried your engagement ring on with your band yet? Typically they will fit a little tighter when worn together.

Yes this happens to me constantly. I have Raynaud’s syndrome so my fingers swell and shrink based on the temperature more than average. If I’m comfortable my rig fits great but the top is heavy so if I’m cold it spins and I take it off because I don’t want it to get damaged.

I have trouble with my ring sliding as well. It is too loose without the jacket band that goes with it but I have another month before the wedding until I can wear all 3 together. I got these "Ring Snuggies" super cheap from Walmart for the time being and so far I haven't had any issues. You can just pop them on and off when needed.

Have your jeweler put some sizing balls in....also known as tiffany balls.

I bought these things from amazon for less than $5 that really help! I forgot what they’re called, but try searching “plastic ring spirals”. They look like clear spiral phone cords and you just trim them to fit your ring to make it tighter. And then when your finger swells you can just take them off your ring

Wouldn’t this make it permanently smaller?

My ring does that. I don't know if there's any solution considering if you add a spacer it could make it tighter on your finger than you'd like at times.

I've been wearing one of my spare silicone rings now that I've been losing weight. The silicone rings are a little bit more snug, and I think, feel better than a spacer or ring guard.

No. You can ask your local jeweler about it — when I worked at a jewelry store years ago we would recommend this for customers with larger knuckles, arthritis or fingers that would change size frequently due to weather or other reasons
