Engagement ring mishaps

Alisa, on June 28, 2020 at 2:23 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

i was dancing around with my younger son being silly and swinging our arms. well my engagement ring slipped right off of my finger and flew across the living room into my fiancé's mancave and landed right behind his 50 gallon fish tank. it was like slow motion "noooooooooooo!!!!!!!" lol i thought it went in the tank and we spent 20 minutes with both of our arms in the tank searching when i saw it blinging at the back of the tank. i was sooo relieved.

have you had any mishaps with your engagement ring. i always hear about people dropping down the sink drain etc. what's your craziest story??

My rings were very loose at one point and I was sitting thru a bag of some sorts and then when I took my hand out my rings were gone! They must have fell in the bag so we had to empty the whole bag out

Thankfully I’ve never had that happen. On days or months were my rings are a bit big on me because I’ve lost Wright or something then I use the plastic rings guards to make sure they stay on.

This may be hard to explain but I’ll try. We have a big kitchen island in our apartment. I thought it was flush with the floor but it turns out there’s a little gap underneath. The jewelry store messed up my wedding band order and it wasn’t supposed to come til after the wedding. So my husband bought a second band to use for the ceremony which they would allow him to return when my real one came in. So he had already paid for two bands. While I was packing for the wedding, I dropped the temporary band and it fell on the floor next to the kitchen island. I went to pick it up and half of it slid under the kitchen island and I almost had a heart attack. I slowly and carefully pulled it out. Luckily my real band came in early and we exchanged them no worries. I don’t know how I could have faced my husband if I basically threw away $900 just because I was clumsy. Crisis averted 😅

I put my ring in my pocket because I was making meatballs and didn’t want it to get all gross, then didn’t think about it until that night when I went to take it off to put on my ring holder. I panicked because I couldn’t remember where I’d put it, and after frantically searching the kitchen I happened to run my hang along my leg and feel it in my pocket 🙄.
I’ve seen way too many stories about people loosing their ring gardening, or down a drain, so I’m extra attentive lol.

I've knocked 2 sapphires out of my ring. Once 3 weeks after I got it, I hit it on the shower door and I'm pretty sure it went down the drain and then this past February, I hit it on my desk at work, but thankfully I found the sapphire and had it replaced.

Not my ring, but DH's. He ordered his band and had to kind of guess his size, since he picked an unusual metal.

It came in, and he tried it on, shook his hand to see if it would stay on .... and it just FLEW off. He panicked, I was trying to figure out where it landed... it took us quite a few minutes to find it.

Thankfully, he was able to exchange it for a size smaller, but ... that was not a fun afternoon, let me tell you!

I haven't had a problem with my rings because I have HUGE knuckles compared to the rest of the finger, but my mom lost her engagement ring down a drain pretty soon after she and my dad got married. I think she had her original ring about 8 months (including their engagement) and then they had to replace it.

So this is not my engagement ring story but my best friend’s....she used to keep her engagement ring next to her bed so when she was getting dressed in her bedroom, she’d remember to put it on. She has 2 Basenji dogs and they can sometimes be a little mischievous. At the time she just had one. So she texts me to let me know that when I was coming over later we had to look for her engagement ring because she couldn’t find it. So I come over, we do dinner like usual then head up to her bedroom to rip it apart. We could not find it ANYWHERE. In walks the dog and starts acting like she found something great, so my best friend gets all excited thinking her dog is about to unveil her missing engagement ring under a pile of dirty laundry that the dog removed from the hamper. Turns out, the dog was burying her toys in laundry and found a bone she wanted. My best friend then looks at me seriously and tells me we have to go out back and start looking through the dog’s poop. I said absolutely not, I am not digging through poo looking for her ring and it’s time to tell her fiancé in case he saw it somewhere. So she walks downstairs, all defeated, and tells him she can’t find her engagement ring. He smirks, opens his glasses case, and pulls it out. He was like, “I was wondering how long you two were going to look before you told me, I found it on the floor earlier today because the dog knocked it down.” I was like she literally wanted me to rip apart dog poo looking for this. We all laughed about it and she ended up buying a ring dish to put it in so the dog couldn’t knock it off anymore.

So far I have only had a mild story but it was enough to scare me into changing my habits with rings. So probably a month after getting engaged I was home went to the bathroom, cleaned the cats litter box, washed my hands in the bathroom sink, then on a whim washed the dishes. After finishing the dishes I grabbed a tawel to dry my hands only to notice my left hand has no ring on it! I'm freaking out because I have no idea when it fell off. (Side note: my fiance originally bought my ring two sizes too large and we had to get it resized. ) So I'm standing there trying to figure out did it fall down one of the sinks, into the floor, into the litter box, or worse case the toilet. While having this freak out I start doing my nervous habit of playing with my ring in my right hand.
I stop! The ring on my right hand is bigger than the small plain ring a normally wear, and it has a stone on it!? Turns out I had taken my ring off before cleaning the litter box then put my engagement ring on my right hand out of habit of only wearing rings on that hand for so many years. Now I have ring dishes at every sink so if I can't find my ring I know it will be in a dish or on my other hand.
