Engagement ring mishap

Private User, on March 9, 2022 at 8:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 3
My fiancé proposed to me last month with a ring I LOVE. However, after looking more closely at it, I realized the band is a mess.. the gold near the main stone is all scratched and warped and just not right. Has anyone had a similar experience? Is this something the jeweler he got it from would be willing to fix. I plan on going to the jewelry store later this week, I’m just trying to prepare myself for what they might tell me. Thanks!

    Personally, unless it was visually noticeable from the top, I wouldn't bother with having this fixed because it is a really minor imperfection that literally no one but you will notice, and would involve a significant amount of work to fix as the whole ring would need to come apart (diamonds taken out and the band reset).

    Ultimately it is up to you on how much this bothers you, but I don't think the jeweller would reset the ring free of charge, and it could be quite a pricey fix otherwise.

    It’s a bit complicated because;
    1. The imperfection risks the stone falling out
    2. When removing stones to be reset there is ALWAYS a risk of cracking/chipping/damaging the stones so it is rarely preferred.3. It’s bad workmanship and the jeweler should really offer to remake it for you, or at least reset only the center-stone into a new band free of charge.

    I agree with Kathryn. Stones fell out of my band and they were reset twice because they kept falling out. The jeweler said it must have been cast incorrectly and they would remake the ring for free since it was their error.
