Engagement Ring Imperfections?

Wells, on January 25, 2018 at 2:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi!

I just purchased an engagement ring from Blue Nile. The ring looks great from normal viewing distance, but if you look really, really closely, it looks like the edges of the band aren't 100% straight. It's really not noticeable, but I can't help but think that it's not supposed to be like this.

Is this normal? Is it fixable?

It wouldn't hurt to reach out if it's something that bothers you. I know that Blue Nile creates custom rings, so it might be because of that. But still, it should be perfect Smiley smile

Definitely contact them with the problem. They should fix it for you since it wasn't something you did to it

Blue Nile's customer service is excellent (in my experience). I wouldn't hesitate to contact them.

I think what you're noticing is the milgrain pattern not being 100% straight and it's acting as an optical illusion. That's usually a design detail that's put on by hand, not cast with the ring. Another option is that it warped slightly during sizing since that is also done by hand and requires heating the metal, adding/removing metal, and then the jeweler pounding it back into shape.

I want hundred percent notice the curve in that band. I would definitely contact Blue Nile. I had ordered a locket from there. And it broke within 10 minutes and I called customer service and they sent me a new one right away and I didn't have to sign my old lock it back. You may have you probably have to send the engagement ring back since it's much more expensive

It’s hard to tell but a good point made. It could be an optical illusion. Contact Blue Nile and see what they say. Also, maybe take it to a jeweler and see if they can tell

Yes, send it back since they have a return policy and get them to give you a new setting. Perhaps switch rings to something different in case that particular style is problematic or see if they carry a higher quality ring setting manufacturer like Tacori.
