Engagement ring downsized, looks a little different

Morgan, on September 26, 2019 at 5:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
Hey all! So my fiancé proposed to me with this beautiful ring that looks similar to the first photo. It came in a size 7, and I’m a size 3.5 😂 needless to say, I had to get it downsized.

’m in love with my ring, however since it’s been downsized it looks different because the tapered sides don’t touch the diamond any more.

Is this a jeweler error or a style error? I just wasn’t expecting it to look different and wish someone had told me.

You can always go back and ask them. Never be afraid to take your ring in, if they made a mistake, they can fix it or if that's just how it was supposed to look they can explain why and put your mind at ease!

Oh, no. Definitely ask about that. It changes the whole look of the ring.

I agree that it looks different and honestly I would take it back and yell them that’s not what the ring he bought looked like and you want it fixed.

Rings aren’t meant to be sized that many sizes up or down. Definitely ask to be sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what the jeweler had to do based on the ring they started with and how much you needed it changed.

Agree with PP's that's not what should have happened. I don't even understand how removing that metal near the diamond would have changed the size of the ring at all, rings are resized at the bottom of the band. Definitely go back to the jeweler!

Going from a 7 to a 3.5 is a HUGE size difference, and honestly I’m surprised they agreed to do it. It looks like when they sized it down, they had to bend it more which is what’s making the sides stick out. But I think if they lower the setting for the diamond it will look better and close to what you have in the first picture. I would go back and ask the jeweler what can be done. If nothing else, you need to make sure it’s not going to be constantly catching on things.

I'm amazed that a jeweler agreed to size down your ring that much. It's really recommended to only size up or down 1 (maybe 2) sizes. After that, you are completely gambling with the structural integrity of the ring. Usually, in cases like this, a ring in size 3.5 is specially made, as stock size is size 7.

I agree with PPs. Definitely go back and see if there's any way to fix it! That's a significant resizing, but the spacing would bother me so much!

I would definitely take it back and request it be fixed! The purpose of those two pieces connecting are so that the ring doesn’t get caught on things!

So my fiancé sent me the actual ring before resizing, there is definitely space between the tapered ends and the diamond. I’m wondering if it’s just because of the different angle?

Definitely realized it’s NOT the same one from the google photo, my fiancé wasn’t sure exactly which one it was and took a guess.

Looking at the actual before photo makes more sense now.

That is definitely an error! Cathedral setting should always touch the diamond!
