So today my SO and I went out and bought my ring. Originally I had picked out a 1 carat solitaire when we first started looking however when we went to the store to make the purchase the diamond they had available in that setting was very flawed. I ended up deciding on a .70 carat with a gorgeous setting and very good clarity/colour diamond. But now I'm second guessing the size! I'm worried it's going to look small on my size 7. 5 finger. I was happy at the store but now I'm second guessing myself. Did anyone else have similar worries? If anyone has a .5-.7 carat ring with size 7.5 fingers I'd love to see a photo to get an idea of size ratio - thanks!

Oh and the only reason I brought up upgrading get later was because we had picked it out together and discussed stone size, etc... But honestly, I don't think I would want to change it based on sentimentality alone.

My FH picked my ring out all by himself. It's a .80 princess cut solitaire. I wear a size 7 and I think it looks perfect. It is actually bigger than I expected. He was worried that it wasn't big enough. But I love it! He said he looked at a 1 carat but it was about $1200 more for not that much of a size difference....and the diamond was not as high quality. I would definitely take a slightly smaller diamond if it is better quality. My diamond is so sparkly and I get a ton of compliments on that! I suppose you could upgrade later. My FH mentioned upgrading once but I'm not sure I would want to part with the stone he gave me! I would rather get an anniversary band on our 10 (or higher ) anniversary instead! I have a coworker whose ring has a similar style and she has an anniversary band & it looks amazing!

    I have a .56 on a size 6 finger. I don't care for overly large rings.

I have a 1.82 carat aqua on a size 8 finger, but I would never go small, or traditional!!!!

How big your ring is seriously doesn't matter AT ALL. It's like men comparing penis sizes...like really? My .33 carat hand cut 133 year old diamond is so precious to me! FH asked me over and over again if it was too small, and I've always truthfully told him that it's perfect. My wedding band is a row of little diamonds, so I'll have plenty of sparkles on my hand =)

I agree with the women on here saying how big your ring is doesn't matter. All that matters is your FH went to the store and picked something out for you. My ring is a .5 and my finger is a 6.5. The diamond looks hell of a lot bigger though because he went for quality or quantity. My ring seriously sparkles in a dark room because of this. If you are seriously worried that you might be judged about the size of diamond in the ring you are not ready for marriage.

I really don't think that she is worried about being judged, or that she is being shallow. I personally think it's a matter of preference and budget, not status (unlike comparing penis size). Her FH did not pick it out by himself, so I'm thinking that offending him is not an issue here.

I personally would never have wanted a ring smaller than a carat in any stone, because I feel that it would make my finger look like a sausage. This is not a judgement of anyone else's ring choice, just my own.

I am usually completely non-confrontational, but I am not a fan of this bride being told that she can't have an opinion, or that she should just be happy. If I had a ring that I didn't like, I wouldn't be able to wear it comfortably. Which my FH knew, which is why we went together.

I say that you should talk to your FH. And if you aren't stuck on having a diamond, there are a lot of other amazing stones that would be in your budget, including white topaz or white sapphire.

    End rant.

You are nuts. Quality always trumps quantity when it comes to a diamond! A flawed diamond will be dull after wearing it outside the store for a while. You want a sparkler, stick to the one you have.

Also, because so many people want "1 carat" or "2 Carat" etc there is a huge markup for them. You can often pay hundreds less for a diamond if it is 0.9 carats over 1 carat with virtually no visible size difference just because you can't call it a 1-carat.
