Engagement Pictures on Invitations?

J, on April 30, 2018 at 9:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 21

Hi Ladies,

So our engagement photographer sent us back a sneak peak from our session. I love the pictures (I included some of them) and was initially only going to use them for our wedding website. I think I may use them on our invitations. Do you prefer plain invites or invites that include 1 or 2 pictures? Let me know what you think.

FYI - We are not doing Save the Dates, only formal invitations.

I think photos are great for STDs... but not on invites.

Your pics are beautiful!! But I think it will take away from the formality of the invite. You can always display a photo in the reception.

I think it’s all up to the individual! And definitely newer to do. In fact, basicinvite.com has a whole section dedicated to it: https://www.basicinvite.com/wedding/wedding-invitations/photo-wedding-invitations.html

If you decide not to include them in your invitation you could even print them for event signs for your wedding.

I’m of the camp of it’s your wedding, do what you want. And I agree, they’re beautiful and totally understand why you want to include them!

Also, my friend is having a formal wedding and she did a formal invite and the back had an engagement photo of them. Another option if you’re having a formal event and still want to include the photo!

    Beautiful pics!

I would use them for STDs if you're doing them. Otherwise website is great. I would leave them off the formal invitations.

Your pictures are stunning, but in general, photographs do give a less formal impression on an invitation.

It doesn't surprise me that a website that sells invitations would have a section featuring pictures. They want to appeal to all couples and all levels of formality.

We used our engagement photos on ours. Personally, I don't think an invitation with photos gives the impression that the event is less formal.

I Love yall Pictures! The Background in the Photo's are Amazing!! I prefer wedding invites with Pictures. On my wedding Invitations I used 3 different Photo's. Our Family and Friends Loved the Photo Idea on the invitations, (Its Unique).

So, normally I'd agree that photos tend to look less formal on invites, but you are literally wearing a formal gown in these picture! I think as long as your invitations somehow telegraph to people what to expect as to the level of formality (how they should dress) you're good.
Those pictures really are great! I'd want to showcase them, too!

I think you should put your engagement photos on the invites because 1) they’re professional pictures...(rather than putting up pictures you took on your phone) and you want people to see your best pictures...
    2) it brings color and creativity to your invites...do something creative don’t do anything that’s original and plain.

We did a trifold invitation that incorporated a few pictures and we’ve gotten tons of compliments about how unique and elegant it was. I say do what you want!

Last Saturday I would have said not to put photos on your invites, but my middle daughter showed me her invitation proof last weekend and it's awesome! Hers is a tri-fold with several photos and I really like it. I don't think it screams informal either. Your pics are absolutely stunning - so now I say go for it!

I’ve never received an invite with photos, only save the dates. I know people say that it makes the invitations less formal. But I think your photos look amazing and I think it would be kind of cool to have one on the back of the invite at least. Usually people don’t put any info on the back, and the front would then still have all your necessary info and formality! Do whatever you want, they’re your invites and I would definitely show off those photos, they’re gorgeous!
