Engagement pics with pet

Kelsey, on July 9, 2019 at 2:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 25

So I scheduled engagement pictures today, they aren't until September but just curious and wanted others thoughts on this. So I want to have my dog in some of the pictures with us, he is still rather young under 3 years old and very much still a puppy. The photographer is near my hometown about 40 mins away from where my FH and I live. I think we should do them around my hometown, because first it will be easier for the photographer (also don't want to pay a travel charge) and second I thought if my dog became a bit much and we aren't able to get the pics of just my FH and I, this would make it easier since my parents still live in my hometown and can be on hand to take my dog back their house. Does this seem like a good idea? I already made sure one of my parents had off just to be safe.

I think it sounds great! We ended up not doing professional engagement pictures, but if we had we definitely would've included our pups in some!

That's what my friends did. They had their pictures don't in the area of their house. Some with their dog and some with just them. They did all the pictures with their dog first. The bride had her sister tag along so she could take the dog for a walk once they were done taking pictires with him.

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure this wasn't an uncommon thing to basically have someone there to take him after! I figured we could do the ones with him first then do just pics of myself and FH.

We did engagement pictures with our dog. We brought my mother in law to watch the dog while we took pictures without him!

Oh awesome!! My dad may have to take him somewhere, our dog tends to whine if we are close but not right next to him.

Yes I think that sounds like a good plan. We did ours with the dogs in our backyard and then put them inside and went to take some other photos after without them.

We did our engagement with my (hmm our) dog. He is older. We had no one to watch him, but brought his lead with us, and was able to attached it around a tree when we did some solo. It worked great. Again older (he is now 10, but was 9) and very mellow pup.

Haha oh I know my dog will have some bloopers. I'm not sure why but he seems to hate having his picture taken! Like every time we try he makes a weird face at us or runs away. LOL my dog also tries to join in like that!

Your plan is great! Can't wait to see how the pics come out. We did almost all out pics with our pup, and then spent about 5 minutes rushing through some pics of just the two of us, lol

We had our dog in our engagement photos and went through similar logistics! Here are some tips we found very beneficial (she was barely a year old, so still in her puppy phase as well)..

    - We took her to the dog park the morning before the shoot. This helped her burn A LOT of energy!!

    - We planned to do pictures with her first AND scouted out the area we felt would be easier for her to focus (lower amount of people watching so she wouldn't get distracted)

    - We had my FSIL come to the beginning of the session, so that when the dog was done she could be taken back home and we wouldn't be stressed.

    - We brought a squeaky ball!! My FSIL stood behind the photographer and made a little sound which obviously the dog looked at..

    - We packed a bowl, water and some treats! (Honestly, she's high maintenance and we pack like she's a toddler when we go places, haha).

In the end, I LOVED including her and we have a "family" photo out of it!

We included my dog in some of our pictures and honestly they are some of my favorite! I actually just asked my mom to tag along with us so she could take the dog when we wanted to get pictures without him. It worked really well and my mom was happy to be included 😊

Oh those are great ideas! Thank you. My dog's focus isn't the greatest he is distracted very easily so I didn't even think of that in regards to location. Your dog is so cute in the picture!

I think that's a great solution. We wanted our dogs in the pictures, but they won't sit still and they hate photos being taken lol. Still wish that we could have had some pictures with them so I say do it!

Half the time out dogs were looking at other things. But even then they turned out so cute. We definitely like our pup pictures more than solo lol.

This is a great idea! We included our puppy in our engagement pics! We didn't mean to but we actually brought him home that same day and we just didn't have enough time to bring him home first! I love our pics so much more now! Of course we took pics without the puppy too!

Our pup was about a year and a half when we did engagement photos, and we definitely included her. We dropped her off with our best man, did some photos of just the two of us downtown, and then we changed outfits and had the best man and pup meet us at a park for the second half of the shoot. We did a few pictures of her greeting us, did a few picture of just the two of us, and then a bunch more with her, and took her home with us afterwards. So I'd definitely recommend having a dog-watcher, and also 100% recommend including your pup!

Our dog is like our child so we will definitely be doing engagement and probably even wedding photos with him. We have done Christmas photos with our dog every year and he is usually "over it" after the first 20 minutes and goes off to do his own thing or cries next to us and our photographer will crop him out haha. The pictures always turn out great and despite being a cry baby he is photogenic and our family and friends love our cards each year.

Here are some pics! and the one where he is laying down could easily be cropped too, even though we included him.
