Just Said Yes February 2025

Engagement pics timeline

So, I made the rookie mistake of asking my future sister in law (Fiancé’s brother’s wife) who does wedding photography if she’d like to do our engagement shoot. She said yes immediately and that she wouldn’t charge us, we paid her $400 anyway and she gladly accepted without hesitation. I later find out that she left the wedding industry because she didn’t like it but she is still okay to do friends and family. Anyway, it’s been 4 weeks now and no photos. My fiancé messaged her at 2 weeks and just simply asked an eta because that wasn’t given to us and she said 3 weeks. It has now been 4 weeks. What, if anything, should I say to her? When should I reach out again? I kind of feel like she’s not prioritizing our stuff because we’re family when we paid her regular fee so it’s a little disappointing. I need to send out save the dates in the next month because it’s destination and I know it takes time to order etc.

Thank you for any help! I would just love the photos back without burning any family bridges 😅

Maybe a gentle nudge like we are so excited to get the photos back and choose one for the save the dates. Working with family and friends can be tricky for this reason, how you get them back soon and absolutely love them!

Yeah, I would just have your fiancé check back in but be super nice about it. Just “hey, just checking in to see if you have an updated timeline for us. We’re so excited to to see them and select a few for our save the dates! We had such a blast doing the shoot with you and know they’re going to be great!”

I agree with the PPs. I would bring it up again nicely, but also try to convey a sense of urgency. Something like “ just checking in to see if you had an ETA on our engagement photos. We are so excited to see them! We don’t want to rush you, but we are needing to order our STDs by X date, and need to use a photo(s) from our shoot”. Hopefully, if she knows there is a deadline by which you need them, she will make it more of a priority.

Did you consider that maybe she’s taking her time to make sure that they come out beautifully? Or maybe time just caught her by surprise? I agree with everyone else and would kindly touch base Smiley smile
