Engagement photos/save the dates

Laine, on August 7, 2016 at 12:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

My wedding is 9/16/17, and I hear you should send out save the dates like 8-10 months in advance? So that means I would need to send out my save the dates by January or February? I want to use one of our engagement photos on the save the dates. I want my engagement photos to be outside so the weather needs to be nice. Obviously the weather is going to start getting cold in a couple of months. Is it normal to take engagement photos so far in advance? I can't really wait until January to take them because there will be snow on the ground. Then if we waited until say April to take them when it's nice out again, we wouldn't have time to send out save the dates. I'm over thinking this I know lol just not sure what we should do. Or I guess I could do save the dates without our pictures and just do the engagement shoot closer to the wedding? Who knows lol.

I think it's fine to take them soon. You will have to wait to get them back from the photographer. Are you having a DW wedding? If it's a local wedding I would say send them out 6 months before. I'm having a DW and sent them out 10 months before. ETA: you also don't have to use engagement pics for STDs. I didn't with mine but I also am not doing E-pics.

We're getting married 10/7/17. Our engagement photos are 10/16/16..for the same reason, decent Midwest weather and I figured that would give the photographer time to edit and get the proofs out to us so we could order the save the dates. I think you'll be fine, better to be early and have them done rather than stressing out about not sending them in time to your guests! Hope that helps :-)

We took our engagement pictures right when we got engaged, nearly two years ago. I don't think it matters when you take them!

Fall photos! Some people don't take engagement photos and some do. Do what is right for you and your fiance. I did mine in the winter but I didn't send save the dates. We though it was an added pointless cost.

We'll be taking ours next month and we are getting married in January. I just plan to use them on the wedding website and possibly have a few blown up to use at the reception on the guestbook table. Smiley smile

Luckily our engagement session is included in our photography package so we will definitely be having one, just wasn't sure as to when was the best time! I hate being cold outside lol. I just saw some cute save the date post cards and it had engagement photos on it and I would love to do something similiar.

We only used 1 professional photo on our std and 2 candids. 1 was a selfie at our first concert together, 1 was our first picture as a couple and then a professional one of us kissing.

I took mine in May 2015 for my October 2016 wedding. I personally think they should be taken shortly after getting engaged. When people take them 3 months before the wedding I wonder what the point is since they will have professional pictures taken of them soon after.

Have you seen the awesome engagement pics that a couple took in a snow storm? They were great. Or you can do them inside if the weather is not cooperating.

You can take your E-pics whenever you would like. I did mine last October, so a year before the wedding.

Good timing for STDs to go out is 6-8 months in advance of your wedding date.

Engagement pictures can be taken any time during your engagement.

We did an engagement shoot a few months after getting engaged but waited over a year to set a wedding date. Most photographers do a complimentary engagement session with a wedding package so we did another since it was included. Our wedding is next august and we just did our photos july 28th that we will use for save the dates. Neither of us change much over the years and unless you get a major hair cut or dye it a crazy color no one will notice.
