Beginner October 2022

Engagement photos

I just got engaged on Friday, July 3! We are thinking about getting married October 2022. When would we do engagement pictures? Should we wait a year or do them soon? Thank you!

Congratulations on your engagement! Totally up to you on when to take the engagement photos! Some people take them shortly after getting engaged, others wait a while. My fiance and I waited until 7 weeks before our original wedding date (before we had to postpone) to take our photos, though if you'd like to use them in your Save The Dates, you should take them sooner! A lot of photographers include them in their wedding packages, so maybe first find a photographer for your wedding, and if they include an engagement session, work with them to setup a time that works best for you. Start with thinking about which season you'd like to take your photos in and what locations you'd like to take them at, and go from there. Enjoy!

This is something that is different for everyone. Do it whenever you want because there is no wrong answer. Congratulations on your engagement! My daughter just got engaged on Friday as well.

This. But with such a long engagement I would wait a while because you’ll want something to look forward to. I initially had a 10 month engagement which has now turned into 16. We are legally married now but the wedding is in December. I planned everything last year and have kind of forgotten about the fact that we are having a wedding (fingers crossed) so spread out your planning and decision making.

It's 100% up to you, but we waited a year into our two year engagement because we knew we didn't need them sooner than that for invite purposes and we wanted to spread things out. 😊 Congratulations ❤️

They can be taken whenever (or not at all). It’s the “engagement” phase until your wedding day. So, since you have 2 years, you aren’t in a rush.

Congratulations! Echoing PP, you can take your engagement photos whenever you'd like to during your engagement. I also had a 2 year engagement (which has now turned into 2.5 years) and took my engagement photos last June (a year into the engagement). What was nice about waiting was that during that first year, we were able to find and secure our vendor and photographers, so the photographers who are doing our wedding also did our engagements. This gave us an opportunity to work with each other before the wedding and was also included in the photography package that we chose. I'd definitely go this route so you don't spend extra money on an engagement session that may be included with your wedding photographer.

There's no set rule on when you get them done. We got engaged October 2018 and our wedding is February. We're looking to do our engagment photos either this month or next month.

A lot of photographers include engagement photos in their wedding packages (at least around here), and planning to use the same photographer for the engagement photos and wedding photos has some benefits. You get to see if you really do like working with that person, develop a relationship, and see what working with them on your wedding day will be like. I personally wouldn’t schedule engagement photos until you have a wedding date set with a venue and can share that date with a potential photographer to ensure they’re available.

Congratulations -- I love the idea of October weddings. I am with everyone on doing the photos whenever it makes you happy. My FH and I are waiting until Covid is under control to do the engagement photos and plan the wedding in more detail. We are enjoying our time engaged. Happy planning to you

    Congratulations on you engagement!

You can take them whenever you want. I would work on nailing down your wedding date, venue, and a photographer, and then discuss engagement photos. Your photographer will be able to help you a lot with planning those. We got married October 2019 and took our engagement photos in March of 2019 (we only had an 11 month engagement though).
