Whenever you can afford to. That's the reality. Ultimately if you're going to use those engagement photos for save the dates then you can get the pictures done whenever but then maybe post them a little closer to your wedding. The biggest thing is I would find a photographer now and see if maybe they have a package in which the engagement pictures are included or if it's a la carte not too expensive. I don't know where you live but maybe wait until spring when the weather is not too hot and some of the flowers have bloomed if you plan on doing outdoor pictures.

Whenever you want. We got engaged in July 2018 and got our engagement photos done June 2019 because we wanted to take our pictures with blooming lavender. Wedding is July 2020. We used one of our photos for our Save the Dates, so we could've gotten away with doing them closer to fall, if we'd had really wanted to.

We got engaged in February, we did our engagement shoot in May.
It gave us a chance, to try out our photographer, and to feel comfortable with her.
We love her! I think, it's totally up to you as to when. We used our pictures for save the dates, but that is also a personal choice. No right or wrong waySmiley smileCongratulations!

I think you should decide on a photographer first and see if they offer an included engagement session.

Also, think about the location and time of year you want to take pictures. If you are having a fall wedding you may want to take pictures in fall. We took our pictures in Tampa so it was spring all year round Smiley tongue

When is your wedding date? Do you want a certain season? We got engaged in Sept. 2019 and had pictures in Nov. 2019 because we wanted fall pictures. Our wedding date is Nov. 2020.

Our cousin is getting married in July and wanted fall pictures so she also waited longer to take her pictures!
