They're definitely not needed, it's really just for the point of any other photos; memories. A lot of people will have them done to put on their STD's, that's what we'll be doing.

Not needed. A lot of people use them for invites, website, save the dates, etc. Just to commemorate.b

Not needed. I didn't do STDs. My photographer offered a "complimentary" engagement shoot. It was more of a chance to get to know us and get us comfortable with taking pictures. If we wanted the photos afterward, we had to purchase them. We ended up purchasing them.

No, not needed, just fun. An engagement photo session was included with our photography package, otherwise we probably wouldn't have done one. But I'm so happy to have the photos because they came out great!! We're using some on our STD, and I'll put some on our wedding website as well. I have framed a couple already and put them on my desk at work.

Agreed with all PPs - they're not really needed, but they're often included in a photography package as an introductory session with your photographer, and just another way to get more cute pics. We used for our STDs and our wedding website, and it was just really nice to have a ton of professional pictures of us in more everyday clothes as opposed to our wedding outfits.

They're not a necessity. They're often used for save the dates, but can also just be used to commemorate this happy time in your life.

We did them but didn't do Save The Dates so we used our engagement pictures for our Christmas cards last year. For the wedding in November we will place them in the centerpieces and do a different photo for each table

They're really just for fun! It's also a great reason to dress up and take photos with your future spouse Smiley smile

Not needed. But I’m so glad we did them because we were a lot more comfortable with our photographer on our wedding day. We weren’t used to getting photographed professionally so the engagement shoot taught us a lot!

We only did them because they were fairly priced and we were able to get comfortable in front of the camera. We initially didn't want to do them or had any intentions of doing an engagement shoot. But, glad we did because we used them for out save the dates.

They are definitely not needed. I think most couples take them to test out possible wedding photographers. My FH and I took engagement photos since it was included in our photographer's wedding package. I love how our pictures came out! We have an amazing photographer! It definitely got me super excited to see what our wedding photos will look like.

They are not necessary to the wedding process. We had them done for a couple of reasons. First, we had never had professional photos taken together, so we used engagement photos as our first opportunity. Also, we wanted them for our STD’s.

They are not really needed. I didn't even use them for STDs, but used a few on our website.

We are blending two families with 5 kids and I’m considering the engagement photos so we can all get together and have those memories.... with 5 kids of all ages ... some away at school... it might be the only time to get them all together!!

They aren't needed but are nice to have to use for Save the Dates, photo's around the house and photo's to use at the wedding for things like the album style guest book. We got ours complimentary with our photography package, it was the only reason we took some. It was also nice to get to know our photographer and for him to get to know us for wedding weekend photo purposes.

Originally I wasn't planning on doing them. I really didn't see the point but then when I was looking into save the dates I noticed a lot of people used their engagement photos as the STD and I thought they were super cute so now we're having ours done next month. I think it's also a good way to get to know your photographer and get a feel for how the photos will look for your wedding day.
