Engagement photos at night?

Deborah, on October 8, 2019 at 1:20 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 9
Has anyone ever done engagement photos at night, and if so, how has it turned out? We're probably late on taking photos, so we'll probably have to take them in the winter time. I have like to go to the lights at the local botanical garden and was wondering if that was something that could be done. On the other hand, I haven't seen many engagement photos during night. I'd prefer to do it during the day, but need some ideas for locations in the winter time.

I would talk to your photographer on this. They may have experience with nighttime photoshoots, but if not you run the risk of unpredictable photo quality. I would go with your preference to do it during the day. If you're looking for a specifically winter theme, you could go to a Christmas tree farm! The majority of engagement photos I've seen are outdoors, so you could look into public parks or something like that.

And as long as you're still engaged, you're not late on taking photos! Hope they turn out great Smiley smile

The photographer will know what to do with this and may have to bring in harsh, unflattering artificial lighting. SOME night pictures might be nice, but I wouldn't risk them ALL at night.

If that is true I would not want to disturb the botanical garden patrons. As someone who goes to this event, that would bother me.

We had our actual engagement photographed at night. They definitely had to use the flash. Some were great photos others were not.

I have several friends who are photographers who don't like to shoot at night, especially not outside. The lighting isn't very good and it casts long shadows on faces. If they use flash, you will show up looking oily or pale possibly. Talk to photographers, and if it's something you really want to do outside at night, find someone who is specialized in evening shoots!

Your photographer can definitely help you with this! Most like to shoot outside during the "golden hour" before sunset because of the beautiful lighting.

I personally love winter time photos, and your photographer should have suggestions for great local spots.

We had a winter photo shoot in the snow. We just found a random location where there weren't any people.

It doesn't snow where I live in California so we just drove about an hour towards Tahoe until we found some. We were originally going to go to a Christmas tree farm but it was raining too badly so we got the idea to go find snow.

ETA: forgot to say, thank you!
