Engagement photos at home? Advice, tips, opinions?

Natalie, on October 26, 2019 at 4:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
Hi! We are thinking of having our engagement shoot (with professional photographer) at our apartment. It feels very “us” because we’re both homebodies. We were thinking a couple shots with our kitten, we also have a rooftop that has decent views and decor but nothing fancy.

Is this a bad idea? Has anyone done this and have any tips or advice or warnings? Should we just stick to the standard pretty park photo shoot (probably popular for a reason, after all!)? I see some examples of what I’m thinking on Pinterest, but I worry you have to be model-pretty to pull it off.

We’re in nyc if it makes a difference.

I love this idea. Pinterest is full of ideas for these as well. I love the barefoot pictures of the couples just kicked back and laughing on their couch, in their bed, or even just in their floor. They always look so relaxed and real.

It all comes down to personal preference with some guidance from your photographer. If you have an apartment that you want to show off and have captured for memories, more power to you!

Outdoor locations are so popular because they have great lighting, which does wonders for photos. If you're doing a small indoor location, the photographer will just have to work a bit more with their equipment to get things to look right.

I'm extremely introverted and love being at home, but my FH and I also have a lot of hobbies (we love going to museums and hiking). So, I can't say much since we have our engagement photos scheduled for Friday in a national park. If we didn't go for that location, we would've probably gone with a museum or downtown setting.

I'd let your photographer know what you're thinking and see what tips or questions they may have for you. Smiley smile They may have done some at-home shoots before and have great recommendations.

I’d say go for it! Think of any photo ideas you would like taken and just have fun with it 😊.

We did engagement photos at home. We decorated a cake, folded laundry, chopped strawberries, fed the cat treats. The one stressful part was getting the place cleaned up and presentable. That's mostly because I hate cleaning and FH was super hung over the day before so he wasn't much help, ROFL.
