My fiancé and I live in Maryland, but are getting married in our home town in upstate New York. We booked a Friday evening engagement photo session in NY with our wedding photographer. FH drove up the day prior with our two dogs and I flew in Friday morning.
I had appointments to get my hair and makeup done. My hair appointment was at my usual hair salon and they did great, as always. I scheduled a makeup appointment at Ulta. I got to Ulta and they told me the makeup artist wasn’t there and they had no idea when she would be there, but it could be an hour or more. My appointment was scheduled for 2pm and I had to be back to my future in-laws house, dressed, and ready to leave by 3:45, so I really didn’t have time to wait around. I told them about my time restraints and they said they could have the other makeup artist who runs the Benefit Brow Bar start my eye makeup, lashes, and brows. I went up to the brow bar, she had me pick out a pair of strip lashes, applied them, handed me a separate/additional bill, and sent me back to wait at the salon. I waited for about 5 more minutes and left. I was panicking and holding back tears. I didn’t bring my own makeup or brushes with me to NY since I was planning on having it done professionally.
I frantically searched the mall for someone else to do my makeup, but everyone was booked solid. I finally found someone at Macy’s who was willing to help me and she found a makeup artist at the Chanel counter to do my makeup. By this point it was after 2:30, so we were rushed. The makeup artist was so nice, but was new and inexperienced. My makeup was not blended well, I had crazy orange bronzer all over my face and a foundation line along my jaw, but I guess it was better than no makeup at all.
By the time it was finished it was already 3:45 and we were late. I rushed back to FH, threw on my dress, and walked out the door without even looking in a mirror. Thankfully he had the dogs and the car ready to go and we somehow made it there right on time.
I was so nervous that I was going to look like a clown in our engagement photos and hate them all, but we got them back and I’m so happy with how they turned out. We loved our photographer and thought she did an amazing job - the pups did great too! I feel so relieved.
Thanks for listening to me vent about my stressful afternoon. Hope you enjoy and can maybe find some inspiration from our photos!
