Engagement Photo Timeline

Becoming a Mrs, on December 16, 2015 at 9:12 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Is there a timeline in which you should get engagement photos taken? We got engaged in November and our wedding is in July - Part of me wants to wait until spring but is that too long to wait?

TIA

I got engaged in 2009 and got my engagement pictures done in August of 2015. It really doesn't matter.

I don't think timing matters unless you want to include an image from the session on a Save the Date announcement. If so, I would have your E-session done at least 8 months out from your wedding. Once your session is done, it could take up to 6 weeks to get images/files back and then printing of STDs and then mailing. Not sending out STDs with an E session image? A spring session would be just fine!

I think it sort of depends what you want to use them for. If they're just to have, then the timeline doesn't really matter. We got engaged in April and did our e-pics in October, because we wanted to have them for our save the dates. But ultimately there's no "typical" timeline.

Perfect! I already ordered my save the dates so I can send them out next month!

It really doesn't matter I don't think unless you're doing save the dates. We got engaged in December 2015 but wanted fall engagement pictures. We didn't want to spend a lot on engagement pictures though, so we went through a lady that does photography on the side and she did a wonderful job! She only charged us $75 for 44 pictures all on a CD with full copywrites so that we could print them out at any store we wanted.

As other mentioned, the biggest consideration is the save-the-date and invitation. Otherwise you can do it whenever you want. As a photographer, I've had some couples do it literally the week before. I love all times of the year! I would say, don't shy away from winter. Snow (if it ever snows) is an opportunity for fun shots too. Think snowmen, mittens, hot coco, snowball fights, and on!

Like everyone else said, I don't think it matters, we got engaged in April of 2014 and took our Epix in June of this year, we did use our epix for our STDs but since you said you already ordered yours it really shouldn't make a difference.

The timing for engagement pictures is really up to you, and the aesthetic you want your pictures to have. I would encourage you to schedule the same photographer for your pictures and wedding. Consider it a rehearsal of sorts, a chance to work your photographer before your big day, to see how they interact with you. Wedding photographers have a backstage pass at weddings, so you want your photographer to be someone you are comfortable with and trust to tell your wedding story.
