Engagement Photo shoot

Really anytime after you choose a photographer is good - many photography packages include an engagement session, so I'd definitely look into booking someone first. Otherwise, it's just up to what you want to use the photos for (maybe you want them for save the dates, so you should make sure you do the shoot with enough time to get edited photos and order STDs), and/or what season you'd like it to be. We were hoping for fall photos, and though it was fall weather, the leaves hadn't quite turned yet - but that was fine with us. I've seen some gorgeous snowy engagement photos, so if that's something you want, waiting is fine.

We got our first ones done 3 months after we got engaged, then the second a month after that! Anytime you feel ready for it, do it. We got engaged at the end of December, and we wanted to get decent weather before we did ours.

We had a free engagement photo session as part of our wedding photography package. If you haven't found a photographer yet, you should look into that first. Many photographers offer something like this as part of the wedding package.

Once we hired the photographer, we scheduled the engagement photo shoot for a few months down the road. We took the photos (about a year from our wedding date), and our photographer used the ones we chose to design our STDs. Now I have those all ready to be mailed. I'll send them out next month for our May 2020 wedding.

We got engaged in June and took our engagement photos in December, for our July wedding. I wanted to take them sooner, but that's when our photographer had availability.
