Engagement photo shoot

Johanna, on October 20, 2019 at 2:22 PM Posted in California Planning 0 15
How did you all decide on where to have your engagement photo shoot? We have our venue and the next step is the photographer and engagement session however I’m at a loss as to where we should shoot. I live in Long Beach CA and yes there are prob endless ideas but I don’t know if I want Beach scene. Any ideas are appreciated thanks!

We had ours at a Botanical garden, at our photographers suggestion.

It was alot of fun. I honestly , didn't put much thought into the location. I just rolled with her Smiley smile

I'm sure they will be beautiful, no matter the location.
    Congratulations!
Please share them, when you have them.

Ask your photographer for ideas! Or Google it, haha. There might me a nice park or University nearby. We had our engagement photos taken on the campus of the college where we met Smiley smile For us that was an easy decision! The college campus is right near a river and there's a beautiful dike there so we had some photos there too. I think parks are nice, or woods, or maybe a pier?

We picked places that meant a lot to us! We went to a state park which is where we had one of our first dates. We also live in the downtown area so we took pictures there for contrast and to have that old brick exposure.
So maybe you could go to places where you guys frequent or have sentimental value to you?

Pick the photographer first! Ours had a bunch of suggestions, and we were able to pick a place that he knew well and had great ideas for. We did ours in a nature preserve, which suited the fall timing.

Yea our venue is at a golf course so while the venue is pretty it’ll be great for the wedding photos but not really for engagement I think. Which is too bad really because we love our venue

Pick somewhere that is meaningful to you then. That will make you more relaxed and your pictures better.

Yea definitely thinking of what our hobbies or things we like to do together. We are brewery people so thinking maybe one location can be at some real nice brewery and I love the idea of exposed brick!! I’m sure downtown LA or even downtown Long Beach will have lots of that character so I should into some areas. Thanks for the tip!

I second picking somewhere significant to you guys—my FW and I live in San Francisco and we’ve settled on Sutro Baths because it’s her favorite place in the city and we’ve had a lot of shared experiences there. I think finding a scenic brewery is a great idea for you guys!

Our photography package actually includes an engagement shoot so I asked my photographer where some of the best places are. I don’t actually live in California and haven’t since I was 4 years old and even though I visit often I still don’t know where anything cool is. Lol.

There’s a national park somewhere in the middle of SoCal that’s rustic and beautiful that she recommended to me.
It’s a little bit longer of a drive, but Big Bear!
Or if you want something less rustic, there’s always LACMA and the botanical gardens (Butterfly habitat!!!) right next to the college over there, too.
There’s always the option of a 50s themed beach shoot!! You go to a diner and the pier and everything and dress like you just stepped out of the 50s! You could drive up to Santa Monica pier or even down to the less busy Huntington Beach pier!

We took ours at El Matador beach in malibu at "golden hour" which your photographer should know about. This is right before the sunset and the backdrop made for the most amazing photos. I highly recommend it! Then you guys can hit Neptunes Net for dinner after you are done.
