Engagement photo shoot advice

Alli, on June 14, 2019 at 1:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

We are having our Engagement shoot tomorrow. I was probably around 8 the last time I had professional pictures done and I am NERVOUS! I hate having my picture taken. We have our outfits picked out so I do feel good about that, and I am getting my hair done that morning as well.. I'm hoping that will give me a confidence boost. I fully trust the photographer regarding poses, etc... but like I said - this my first time so I'm looking for any advice you guys can give me! TIA!

Just try to relax. Our photographer was really good about just letting us act natural and be ourselves instead of doing a ton of posed pictures and it really worked. The natural pictures looked so much better because we were relaxed, laughing, and just having fun together. They look a lot less still and "fake" than a lot of the posed ones tend to look in my opinion. I would just tell your photographer you are a little nervous and you really want the pictures to look natural/relaxed, they should be able to help you from there. Our photographer just gave us ideas of normal stuff to do (ex: walk toward that tree holding hands, dance in that field over there, hold hands facing each other and talk about your day) and then she would just step back and take pictures.

Definitely just try to relax and enjoy the shoot with your FS, and trust the photographer. Even if a pose feels awkward, just go with it because they should know what they're doing. Also, something I always remember when having my pictures taking is to almost silently say the word "yes" as I smile. The people taking my high school senior pictures told me to do it because it kind of opens your mouth into a natural smile, and it's stuck with me haha

JUST RELAX! I was a mess the day of not to mention it was SUPPPPPPER windy. The photographer was amazing however, I was so tense- in the pictures it shows.

Remember these photos only happen once.
I should have taken a shot of tequila before so I could have loosened up haha.

I was sooo nervous! Never had professional pictures taken. Did my own hair and makeup and the minute we showed up to the area it started raining so I was extra stressed at that point. But if you chose a good photographer like we did - you’ll be fine. The minute we met up with the photographer all worries went away - including my frizzy hair from the rain. Our pictures came out great! You’ll be just fine regardless of how stressed you feel now.

As everyone else has said, just relax. And have fun with it! Your photographer will give you all the directions, but a lot of it will just be you and your FH interacting with one another. So also remember to act natural and be yourselves. We had so much fun at our engagement session. We got some great posed shots, but my favorites ended up being the candid shots where we are just laughing and being our silly selves.

Oh... and if you are going to a public place, try to ignore people around you. We had a lady follow us around the park watching us the entire time. It was a little awkward lol.

I not suggesting you get drunk, but if you drink alcohol it probably wouldn’t hurt to have a drink ahead of time! Hopefully I don’t get any pitchforks with this comment... lol

Thank you everyone for the advice... I feel much better knowing I'm not the only one with nerves beforehand.
