Engagement photo props?

BrooklynBride, on October 14, 2017 at 3:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

Besides perhaps a bouquet, what other props did everyone use for their engagement photos? The only thing not allowed is balloons, as per photographer.

Any ideas or advice for engagement photos?

Thanks!

Why do you need props when you have a couple in love?

To answer your question more directly....I hate props and signs. Think of why you're doing engagement photos....to get to know your photographer and have a fun and casual photoshoot. Of course you may use the photos for wedding reception decor, slideshow, STD announcements, social media fun, and just to have. No need to overthink it and add too many ingredients you don't really need. Be you, be casual, take the direction of the photographer, do what fits. My approach is fly on the wall and keep it natural and un-posed, and let the love shine through. That simple.

I agree that props are unnecessary; as long as you have a nice location and a great photographer, you're set. We did not use any props. Pinterest has tons of ideas, like a sign or other object with your wedding date on it, the "&" symbol held between the two of you, signs with cutesy sayings on them... There are plenty of options out there.

We went to a coffee shop and ice cream shop for some of our pics and had accompanying beverages and cones to go. But I agree with Pps that signs and obvious props are cheesy

We have been long distance for 2.5 years, we chose to use our country of birth flags to wrap ourselves in. As I no longer live in my country of birth, when my family back home saw the photos they loved it! It represented a huge chunk of our relationship! I love the idea of using props, but I am one of those hopeless cutesy romantic types.

Our photographer has a rustic metal "&" symbol and a clear bubble umbrella. It's supposed to rain on the day of our pictures so the umbrella might come in handy. I will also have a small flower crown in a few of the pictures.

Seriously, why do you need props? I find them cheesy, but do you. Also, I've never seen or heard of a bouquet being used in e-pics. It's not the wedding, so I don't get it.

My photographer has a similar approach to @Jay. We're actually taking our e-pics tomorrow. We're just showing up at our agreed location and taking it from there. Literally walking around and capturing natural moments. Maybe some posed shots, but not overly posed.

As for advice, just trust your photographer and don't be afraid to ask any questions.

I could see maybe a prop or two if you were trying to do something specific (like all the stupid facebook announcements) however, other than that, you shouldn't need anything. You will get great photos if your photog doesnt suck.

My photographer was open to props and thought they could be fun. No balloons? That's a dang shame because a couple of my favourite shots has balloons lol. We didn't go overboard with our props. And we found our photographer to be incredibly talented so no, she did not need the props to do well and that's not why she brought up the potential use for them. I'll post a couple of photos. (On mobile so please bear with me)

To answer your question as to where to purchase, Amazon has a lot of options. If you have more time then you can also check out Etsy.

    Without props.

I suppose you should check with your photographer. Perhaps s/he will be as open as ours.

We didn’t use any props either, just had our dog in some. I don’t think they’re necessary, but I’ve seen some people with a sign with their date on it.

    Thanks for all your comments!

Originally, I was just gonna show up with FH and take the photos but when the photographer asked if we had any props, I was surprised.

The props mentioned here are very cute.. My wedding is in December a week before Christmas, but I think I'll skip Christmas related props, haha.

We didn't do props but we've seen signs that say "he asked" and "she said yes" or something with the wedding date on it.

I'm with the majority. I prefer more natural and not staged photos.

I will say though that at the end of the shoot, we did a few pictures with our yellow umbrella. We are huge how I met your mother fans and it was supposed to rain so we brought it along and our photographer is also a fan of the show so she had us get it out.

(Not a pro pick. She took this on her phone while we were finishing up)

I personally don't care for props in photos. I especially don't understand why a bouquet would be used for engagement photos?
