Background info: I'm originally from CA and that's where all of my family (including parents) still live. I moved to TN five years ago, which is where I met my fiancé and where we are getting married in November 2019.
Because the wedding is in TN and I know that some of my CA family will not be financially able to travel to TN, I'm wanting to have some sort of engagement party/shower in CA during summer 2019.
My parents aren't really able to host anything, so I'm planning to rent out a room at a restaurant in CA and buy everyone's brunch.
My question is... should I consider this an engagement party? Wedding shower? My fiancé will be there and I want my male family members/CA friends to feel welcome, so I don't want to refer to it as a bridal shower.
We've been engaged since July 2018 so summer 2019 seems sort of late for an "engagement party", but at the same time this summer will be the first time I've been home (to CA) since the engagement.
