Engagement dinner

Christina, on March 24, 2017 at 2:29 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Did anyone have an engagement dinner? If so, how much did it cost, what did you do and how many people did you invite?

My friend and bridesmaid offered to host an engagement dinner for us at my FH's parent's place. We invited our immediate families and the bridal party. I'm not sure how much she spent, but for a 7 course homemade Italian meal for 20 (it was DELICIOUS), I'm sure it was probably close to $400.00 for all of the food.

We probably wouldn't have done it if she hadnt offered to do so.

I had an engagement party. Invited immediate family on both sides (including spouses and children) and close friends. Had about 80 people. Cost was $1,000 because we had it at my moms house and borrowed tables, chairs and linens. My aunt brought wine and champagne. We just paid for catering.

I didn't have one and I don't know anyone that did. It must not be a popular thing around here.

My parents threw us one with immediate family and our bridal party. It was in a private room in a restaurant. Not sure how much it cost...we had apps, dinner and lots of wine

We invited just our parents over for a BBQ last summer so they could get to know each other. They had briefly met in the past but never for more than a few minutes. It was a little awkward but I'm glad we did it.

My MoH (FSIL) had an I DO BBQ in our backyard after labor day for us, the entire bridal party was invited so everyone can be introduced, people we are planning on inviting to the wedding, and although its highly recommended you dont do this, people that werent going to be invited to the wedding were invited, and we let them know there, which they had no problem with (before anyone jumps on me lol). We did this because they still wanted to celebrate with us and it turned out great and inexpensive!

We didn't have one. Also, you normally don't throw yourself your own engagement party FYI.

Gotta love being invited to a party where the hosts let you know you won't make the list for the "BIG" party.

Both sets of our parents just took us out for dinner. My gfs took me out too. Just a little celebratory thing shortly after we got engaged. You shouldn't really throw you're own engagement party.

My first account either got hacked or got messed up, but after I couldn't use it on my phone, so I made a new one

My parents are throwing it, they wanted to meet everyone before the wed ding and since everyone lives so far away, an engagement dinner seemed like a good idea. We're inviting the wedding party, close friends, and family
