Hi Nikki! It's not actually good form to host an engagement party in honour of yourselves.

We had one thrown for us about a month before our wedding. It was a small (8 people) surprise party in a private room of a restaurant.

What if you do one to bring your family together? My FH wants one... so we are planning one.

It's always considered rude to host an engagement party, shower, bach, etc. for yourself. If no one offers to host, you don't have the party. You can have a get-together for your families, but an engagement party implies that they should bring a gift.

But I've heard differently, that engagement parties are not a gift giving event. And we don't want gifts. We just want to get our f family together and feed them.

My FILs threw us an engagement party a few months ago. We received a few engagement gifts, even though it's not a gift-giving event. Some family members just wanted to give us gifts, so they did.

We just had a family get together to celebrate, no gifts or formalities just kind of a dinner with everyone. It was nice. Also, it started off by me just inviting my immediate family and they invited everyone else. It wasn't so much an engagement party but like an announcement party, lol if that makes sense.

Our parents cohosted our engagement party at our local firehouse hall! It really brought our families together and was a great way to celebrate during an exciting time.

Traditionally Engagement parties are thrown by the parents of the bride or groom to announce the engagement. Guests are simply invited to a dinner party and then the engagement is announced as a surprise. If your engagement is already announced you don’t need to throw one

its bad form to host a party in your own honor. If no one offers to throw a party then just skip it.

My parents hosted a brunch immediately after our engagement happened. It wasn’t reallly an engagement party since Everyone knew before hand we were getting engaged And was just there to celebrate in the aftermath
