ENGAGEMENT DINNER

Dee, on April 17, 2017 at 2:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Happy Monday Everyone! I'm getting closer to my engagement dinner and I was just wondering what are you guys planning on doing for your engagement dinner or how are you planning on sharing your news to your family and friends?

Just called, and/or spoke to friends/family in person. We didn't want an engagement party.

Well, usually you don't plan an engagement dinner for yourself, but even WW has it on the checklist so I guess it's whatever.

FH and I aren't doing one. Our families and friends are both OOT, so we would either have to do 2, or expect them all to travel.

And we really don't want to take it out of our budgets to host an extra dinner.

I don't think it makes sense to wait to tell people at an engagement dinner.

The night after we got engaged, we both called VIPs to let them know first (parents, siblings, best friends, grandparents etc) and then the next day we made it "Facebook Official" which told basically everyone else.

Majority of our family and friends were present for our engagement. Then we went to breakfast afterwards. I didn't need to call or announce it.

We called our closest family and friends, and then invited everyone to come celebrate at a local bar with us the next night.

We had an engagement party with just our close family. We didn't do a dinner, but we did appetizers.

The day FH proposed, he threw a surprise party. Our moms, both sides of family were there. They all knew, except for me ( I was blindfolded).

If I hadn't had a party, I still don't think I would have thrown anything, because of costs.

I feel like the engagement party should be in the overall budget of your wedding, unless you're going to wait years to get married, than party all night!!

We called our family and close friends that we wanted to hear the news directly from us. Once we were satisfied that everyone who needed to know knew, we updated our relationship status on Facebook. We mainly wanted to make sure the people closest to us knew it had happened before we started running into random people in public and people outside of our circle of closest friends and family began sharing our news before we had contacted those who shouldn't have heard about it secondhand.

We also didn't have an engagement party. It's a party thrown in your honor, so usually, someone close to you would offer to throw one for you if it's going to happen.

The night we got engaged, FH walked me into a restaurant where our nearest and dearest were waiting to celebrate with us. Such a surprise!

We went to the Cheesecake Factory and created "will you be..." boxes for our bridal party. Went great, however I highly recommend making reservations if you have not yet. That was our mistake and we ended up waiting like 2hrs to be seated!! PLUS Cheesecake Factory does not accept reservations anyway. Lesson learned. Our rehearsal dinner is absolutely already reserved through a restaurant.
