Engagement announcement AND save the date?

Katarina, on February 20, 2017 at 3:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I know it's usually said that you send Save the dates only to those who can later expect an actual invitation to the wedding.

My fiancé has a very large extended family, some of whom cannot recognize him in a room, and don't know him well. They WILL expect invitations because of his grandmother or if we send save the dates and unfortunately due to our budget they won't all be invited.

Should we send out engagement announcements to these people, as well as those who will be our actual guests? And then save the dates to only those who can expect an invitation? Or no engagement announcements at all and just let those who won't be invited kinda get the hint??

General advice/opinions appreciated Smiley smile

(We don't plan on sending save the dates out for about a year obviously since we're still almost 2 years out)

Don't send them anything. Also, don't invite everyone because of "grandma" she can get over it.

You could just skip both and save the money.

Don't send anything to anyone you do not plan to invite to the wedding. It's rude.

Completely agree with Unawarepandabear. If you don't plan to invite them (which I think is the right call, BTW), you should definitely avoid any wedding-related correspondence.

I wouldn't send engagement announcements...what's the point? I don't think anything in your life would change if you did/did not send announcements.

If you send someone a save the date, you have to follow up with an invitation so only send them to people that you will invite to the wedding.
