Engaged couples wearing rubber bands

Elizabeth, on April 17, 2022 at 11:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
Hi all! My recent fiance expressed interest in wearing a rub we band until we get married and it's replaced with his wedding band. I also want to wear a rubber band for when I go to the gym or sleep. My question is, would it be odd for my fiance to wear a rubber band even though we're not married yet? Is it socially acceptable for me to wear a rubber band or should I only when we actually get married?

Never heard of that. But do whatever makes you happy. Be careful you don’t cut off circulation which is easy to do.

You can do whatever you two want. By rubber band do you mean silicone band? I imagine that would be way more comfortable than an actual rubber band.

I haven't heard of this in the US, but I've heard of other countries traditions where the groom wears a ring on his right hand before marriage and then switches it to the left hand after getting married. If your fiancé wants to wear a band before marriage to show his commitment, go for it.

Do you mean a silicone band? A rubber band would be very uncomfortable. I wear a silicone band when working out, cleaning, swimming, etc. my fiancé has a silicone band but he doesn’t wear it yet. But his friend sometimes wears his and they’re not married yet! It’s personal preference and I don’t think it’s weird one way or the other, I just don’t like to not have anything on my finger but I also don’t like to wear my E ring when doing certain activities.

Echoing the above posters that a silicon band would be the way to go rather than a rubber band. That being said, it's totally up to you guys whether either of you wants to get a band. I don't think it would be weird for you to wear one since you already wear a ring. I'm planning to get a silicon one for when I send my engagement ring off to be soldered to my wedding band since I'd feel weird not wearing anything and I don't want to wear the final piece until we're married. If your fiancé wants his own silicon band then he totally can as well.

My husband started wearing his wedding band the moment it was available, long before our wedding. Do what you want, nothing weird about it

My fiance has also been wearing his wedding band since the moment he got it, and we don't get married until September. I think it's adorable - he says to me "You get to wear a ring, I want to as well". Which honestly, yeah why would only the woman wear a sign of "being taken" and the man doesn't until you're legally married?! You do you - who cares about tradition!

I bought a 7 pack of different colored silicone bands off of amazon shortly after getting engaged. We go to the shore a lot in the summer and I didn't want to worry about my ring down there with sand, ocean, boating etc. I also wear them to the gym. I've also worn them while sleeping or flying. I wore one every day we were in Florida at disney. They're great for if your fingers swell with heat. I wear my normal ring to most other things. My FH got a tungsten ring for when we're married and he'll have a silicone one he wears when going to the shore or to work (he works for UPS).

I know people who have done this. If he wants to, let him.
