End of July outdoor wedding 2019

Rachel, on October 1, 2018 at 10:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
I am looking for advice for an all outdoor wedding at the end of July 2019 in Pennsylvania. Considering having the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception outdoors. We have plans to keep guests in the shade for most of the day other than the ceremony which we plan to kee short. The guests will have access to cold water, wedding programs that are fans and will be seated at the ceremony location right before the start(only location in sun). Ceremony is planned to be quick. Reception is in open air pavilion surrounded on 3 sides by pine trees, entire place should be in shade by reception start time. Plan to have industrial fans in at least 2 of the corners. Bathrooms will be stocked with items to help keep guests comfortable in hotter weather( wash clothes in ice to help cool down, sample size deodorant, makeup and perfume). Is this sufficient to make guest comfortable during an outdoor wedding?

I don't know if anything can really keep people comfortable for an outdoor wedding in July. I know I would be miserable and probably leave early. I'm just being honest I don't mean to be rude.

These all sound like great accommodations, but really the best way to do this is to not have your guests stay outside. I went to an outdoor wedding in Colorado last year, which I had thought would be relatively cooler than where I'm from, TX. It was very hot and sticky and miserable. Even with a shortened time period, some of your guests will still sweat. If you can, just make everything either be 1) inside or 2) have your wedding ceremony begin after the sun is around half way down. I know it's not ideal but neither is making your guests sweat in their fancy clothes. OR... could you rent a tent to completely cover the ceremony & reception space?

That sounds like a lot of provisions just to keep your guests from passing out. Last outdoor wedding I attended someone did pass out and an ambulance had to be called. Only the ceremony was outside and they had cold water available. What if it rains, or is windy, or buggy? IMO, indoor is the way to go, especially when dealing with excessive heat.

It seems like you're trying to be accommodating. I'm in PA and end of July is the hottest time of the year. I don't think program fans really work in humidity so I wouldn't count on those at all. What is the dress? Are you expecting men to be in suits? What if it rains? Best of luck!

If guests know it's outside, I think you'll be fine. Maybe offer fans for guests to take (they could double as programs?). I also think providing ice water is a great idea.

Personally, I absolutely hate summer outdoor weddings. In July I think even an outdoor ceremony would be too much, but I hate sweating through nice dry clean only outfits. No matter how much deodorant is in the bathroom it won’t make it better, the only times I’ve ever seen men sweat through suits is at summer outdoor weddings. I’ve also seen people pass out and an ambulance called. Nobody will dance, they will sit around chugging water in front of the fans complaining about how miserable your wedding is (sorry to be blunt but I live in the south and have been to too many wedding like this). I don’t blame the October brides when they get a 90+ degree day but July, that’s a given that it will be miserably hot and uncomfortable even in PA.

I have a heart condition that makes hot weather absolutely miserable. I would end up having to leave early, even if i were in the shade. I'm glad you're trying to accommodate for the weather BUT i feel like if you have to stock bathrooms with cold rags and deodorant, maybe the heat is too much. Plus the look of fans isnt exactly beautiful. There's a reason some venues refuse outdoor July/August weddings!
